I’m not a Mets’ fan. Never have been, never will be. In my youth, when National League teams met American League teams only in Spring Training or the World Series, I was a quasi-Astros’ fan. Let me clarify, Houston was only a few hours away from my home in south Louisiana, but they never were in the same galaxy as my passion for the NY Yankees. But, had the Yankees not been in the playoffs and the Astros were, then I might sport an orange hat and yell at the television for them. As an aside, I always had an inexplicable affinity for the San Francisco Giants, too, and still do - except during the Barry Bonds era. Again, different multiverse of rooting and attention.
Having said that, if I had been raised in New York, I would probably care secondarily about the Mets, as I used to about the Asholes, er, Astros (I wish they would have stayed in the National League). Therefore, what the hell are the Mets doing? I just read that for Zach Wheeler, who is a free agent after this season, the Yankees offered Clint Frazier and Miguel Andujar. The Mets turned it down. They turned down two freakishly quick bats for the next fifty games of Zach Wheeler? Not even, ten games, assuming he makes all his starts every fifth day.
While I realize Andujar is hurt, he likely won’t be next season. And, as huge of an Urshela fan as I am, Miggy Doubles’ defense is not what sunk the Yankees last season. What did he hit in his rookie year at 23 years old....47 doubles, 27 dingers, 92 RBI, .300 batting average?
For those of you living in and/or from New York, and even familiar with the Mets, what the hell? I would have been rather miffed if the Yankees only received Wheeler for Frazier and an injured Andujar. Not angry, but miffed.

The Mets turned down Frazier and Andjuar for Wheeler? Where did you hear that? I'm glad that trade was turned down. I would be angry if that trade was made! Wheeler and his 4.71 ERA can go take a hike!

If I were the Mets I would have taken that. Why hold on to Wheeler? He's a free agent after this year!

The Mets are a second-rate organization and their fans know they are. Like losers everywhere, they get their meager satisfaction from seeing those they envy -- in this case the Yankees -- sustain setbacks.
I remember after Boston beat the Yankees in 2004, Met fans calling the New York sports station celebrating as if the Mets had actually achieved something themselves.
The Mets would rather hurt their own chances than do anything that might help the Yankees. So from that standpoint, it's not hard to see why the Mets would turn down a trade that might help the Yankees, even if it also benefited them.

And for the record, I am glad this deal didn't go through. Wheeler is crap and wouldn't have been of much use to the Yankees anyway.

They have a Shake Shack in their stadium. Otherwise screw the Mets! Third rate organization.

That story is amazing in more ways than one - incredible Cashman would make this offer and incomprensible that BVW turned it down.

What is your take on the Keuchel and the Yankees’ signing restraint? Honestly Rizz, I wasn't that sold on Keuchel, but neither would I have been upset had they signed him. A weasel position, in other words. In retrospect, where we are always correct, it would be good to have another arm. At this point he would be probably one of the Yankees two or three best starters. Cashman has made so many brilliant moves that I tend to cut him some slack. But yeah, the Yankees would be better off with Keuchel now than they are without him. I didn't think the starters would implode this badly for this long. One quality start in two weeks? That's lame.

As for signing restraint -- I never mind if Yankee ownership spends money. Is there any fanbase that wants its team to spend less? Sure, you want the spending to be intelligent, but I don't care what they spend if it leads to a ring. That's all I focus on, winning the ring. Devout advocate of "flags fly forever."

I don't know how good Wheeler is but Andujar has no place to play on the Yankees except DH where EE logically fits. We have Urshela and LMH who can play third and his(Andujar) defense is woeful. I don't want him to play an infield position. Frazier is poor at defense and has major attitude problems.
If Wheeler is a good pitcher as many think I would have made this deal. As for his present ERA has anyone looked at our starter's ERA recently?
the Mets turning down Andujar and Frazier for a pitcher who is unhappy on the Mets and is leaving anyway explains why they are an awful team in a city where there Is no real excuse to be so.
