modeling has to be balanced against common sense. That does not mean it is. The collapse of the US economy in 2008 some believe was tied to flawed time series models (called copulas) that made assumptions that probably were not reasonable and in any case likely did not balance common sense.
It is made worse by the fact that complex statistics is understood by very few in most organizations.

The two games in London count against the Boston home games even though they were not in Fenway That is true, but still pointless to have 8 Yankee Redsox games with only a 2 game Arizona series in-between. I agree. I note that many call for umpires being replaced by computers to call strikes. That is what is occurring here, computers are replacing people in setting up the schedule. "Does not make sense" does not make sense to a computer  |
