Inger you've done lost your mind. Talking about trading Torres or Sanchez for deGrom. Yes, deGrom's an Ace but just last year he had an unspectacular ERA of 3.53 in the NL. Arm injuries are always a concern for pitchers. And only 2.5 years of control. I think we needed this voice of reason from Kay. I defense of the idea--Sanchez is a .200 hitter, prone to injury (twice this year already) and horrific slumps.

inger is putting it out there with his 1 for 1 trades.....he is the anthesis of Krazy Karl, with his three team, 17 player proposals.....inger is ready to trade Torres for de Grom, and now Sanchez for de Grom……..
That said, I would make that proposed trade for Sanchez easier than I would sending Torres away....
inger sees a chance to snatch a title away this year and next, and I do too...…...

And he is not a .200 hitter. Take his career numbers: .260/.337/.533. True (although still a fairly small sample size). But you threw out that deGrom had a poor ERA just one year ago and I was just doing the same for Sanchez using one year's batting average (this year's). You also noted that catchers are injury prone (in response to my post about Sanchez's injuries) due to the nature of the game, but you made the exact same point about deGrom being a pitcher subject to injury at any time. Again, it's the nature of the game. So both would be prone to injury due to their respective positions. I was simply pointing out the equivalency. I'm not sure I'd make the trade. Just pointing out that it's not an entirely crazy idea. We have a decent back-up catcher who is currently hitting .280+ with some pop. We do not have a pitcher of deGrom's caliber behind Seve.

Sanchez' batting average for this year is not even a full year worth of plate appearances, more like less than half a year. And catchers are injury prone but not prone to big time arm injuries like pitchers that could knock them out for months or even years. Romine has only 128 PAs this year. Take his career numbers: .230/.277/.347. That's not much pop at all. I think it's a bad idea to give up the best hitting catcher in the game whose under team control unit 2023 for deGrom whose under control until 2021.

Austin Romine went to bed on April 25th of this season with a batting line of .259./.355/.296. History said that he was performing at about his expected level, perhaps even a bit better. In his next 11 games he hit .469/.541/.969 on a nice little 15 for 32 tear with 4 doubles and 4 HR. Prior to that stretch, Romine had never hit more than 4 HR in a season, much less in 11 games. His BA rose to .375 during that period. Since then (June 6th an onward), he's hit .169/.206/.322. I wonder if the 2 HR he hit in the last few days is an indicator that we may see the hot-hitting version of Romine again soon? In his last 6 games, including yesterday's 0 for 4 he's hit .273/.333/.591.
Romine's early career opportunities in NY were severely hampered by untimely injuries twice, denying him opportunity to compete with the likes of Stewie for the back up role. I always liked him as a minor leaguer because of his toughness and his .270-type bat with a moderate amount of power. The only thing I didn't like was that he was too free-swinging. I even likened him at one time to a poor man's Thurman Munson, and I figured that if he ever won the starting job in NY, we'd become addicted to his hard-nosed style and handling of the pitching staff. This season, his overall numbers (.271/.336/.492) are very near to the potential I felt he had a half-dozen years ago before the unfortunately timed injuries pushed him down the depth chart, behind Montero, Cervelli...and even Stewie...
If he can continue to play anywhere near this level, he's going to be a great back up for Sanchez, and will eventually be a trade target for many GMs in MLB...

Chasen Shreve has taken on the role of the Yankees bullpen whipping boy with fans and posters alike this season. It should be noted however, that in his four seasons with the Yankees Shreve has compiled a record of 14-6 with 1 save, and an ERA of 4.01 (107+). Perhaps underappreciated because the level of talent in the Yankee pen is so much greater than that of Shreve. He's not bad...He's just not great...

I will admit my blood pressure rises when Shreve comes in but look... Boone got Holder going... He's trying to do same thing. Shreve has shown he has the talent to succeed

The home run derby contest is on the verge of extinction...
Noetsi has an idea that they should have a slowly hit ball contest, with each ball gently steered away from the places fielders would usually play...

Yes, though he’s easily three decades your junior, and about 6-7 years younger than me. Hopefully whatever ails him can be muted and he’ll be around to bore us much, much longer...mrG got me hooked on picking on the poor man, which has also led me to appreciate him for who he is...
