One takeaway for me was the absolute dominance per individual player(s). That team played to a 110-44 record. So even with that amount of dominance, with a disruptive offense that on one else in the league could come close to matching and very solid pitching they didn't win in Harlem Globetrotter fashion. They had to play good baseball to win, and if the opponent had a starting pitcher that was "on", or if they made an error at the wrong time they still paid for it with the occasional loss. The Red Sox and Yankees are both experiencing excellent seasons, yet both have had a slump. In one slump, the Yankees let the Red Sox gain a massive early lead, in the other the Red Sox allowed the Yankees to catch up. My examination of the '27 team was based on two things...one was just my normal curiosity...the other was to see if we could learn anything from history that might tell us something about the way this season will go... Babe Ruth had a 1.258 OPS (225 OPS+) and Lou Gehrig had a 1.240 OPS (220 OPS+) that year. Wow. And only Heilmann joined them with 1.000 or better. He had an OPS + of 180. No one else posted up higher than 139+...I have a new appreciation for Heilmann (Tigers) after looking at the '27 stats and am going to go back to review his entire career later...Cobb was no longer the great force he had been, but he was still an excellent player...

Copying another posters post on another boars... I didn't write this.. Just thought it was interesting..
first number ever assigned to Joe DiMaggio never made an MLB game. He was given 18 originally. Debuted as 9, we all know him as 5.

You know what's some bullshit?? The Sux go and win 8in a row while we're in this lousy stretch of ball... So it magnifies our short coming. I'm sure the sux will go through a rough stretch while we excel.

We made up a bigger deficit than that earlier in the season, don't see why we can't do it again

New York Yankee catchers OPS...
Higashioka .921
Romine .831
Sanchez .723
I'm just saying, guys...that's all...We need to trade someone for a top shelf starting pitcher? Should Sanchez be made available? Even though he's slumped this season, we could still be selling high if there are doubts about how long he can stay at catcher. This would be a huge risk, but the reward could be worth it...

Would anyone trade Sanchez for deGrom? One on one and done...Now shake my hand... No way. You know how hard it is to find a good hitting catcher let alone probably the best hitting catcher in baseball? He's not a free agent until 2023.
He's in a slump yet still has the power numbers. He'll hit better. Romine has no track record of hitting well.
You would never trade Sanchez for 2.5 years of a pitcher.

Inger you've done lost your mind. Talking about trading Torres or Sanchez for deGrom. Yes, deGrom's an Ace but just last year he had an unspectacular ERA of 3.53 in the NL. Arm injuries are always a concern for pitchers. And only 2.5 years of control.
