Yikes, I didn't realize I had done that. Guess I get a wrong thread walk of shame. Anyway, thanks for clarifying. Hard to believe the White Rat is that old. I do recall having his baseball card as an outfielder for the Senators. Misc BS can technically be anything so I'll spare pipps the wrong thread sirens.
Keep up the excellent posts you two! You are too merciful as always Kaybli, but since I already entered a plea of nolo contendre you can mete out the penalty if you think it will help discourage future malefactors.

We should just continue this story post by post. Be careful what you wish for. Dome may add a few chapters of his own… 🤓 Loving the Do Me World Tales. So damn funny and maybe true???

If it was something like "Nice leadoff walkoff to start the game for Volpe" I would of wrung you up. But we can let this slide, lol.

Keep up the excellent posts you two! Of course he didn’t answer in the wrong thread. I moved the post after he replied. Yeah. Technically anything in BS. But I like the dead guys served cold in the RIP, where they belong…

Be careful what you wish for. Dome may add a few chapters of his own… 🤓 Loving the Do Me World Tales. So damn funny and maybe true??? You have given us a lot of material to work with, Do… While we have our political differences the rest is all good with me, man. Each life belongs to its owner. Live how you wanna live… (Except maybe at the polls)… 🤓

Next with no MVPs at 92.9 WAR is Al Kaline.
After finishing 3rd in ROY voting in 1954, Kaline finished a close 2nd in 1955 AL MVP voting & 3rd in 1956.
Kaline won 10 GG w/DET for his outfield defense. He was not equaled until 1999 when Ken Griffey, Jr. won his 10th GG, all w/SEA. Ichiro Suzuki joined them in 2010…

Kaline sends me off to a little side jaunt. Having pored over statistics for do long for so many years certain things stick in my head that may not be noticed by others.
In 1962, the year Kaline had the misfortune of breaking his collarbone, he only played in 100 games. Yet he homered 29 times. He would hit 29 homers again in 1966, but that’s the most HR he ever hit in a season.
I know I always preach that there is no such thing as pace in baseball, but if Kaline would have played anything near to his full slate of games he could have exceeded 40 HR that season.
George Brett had a similar performance in 1990 when he had his infamous .390 year. He only played in 117 games that year but his HR count of 24 was one off his career high and his 118 RBI were the most he ever had.
I have to study on this, but I was thinking another player had a season where he set or exceeded career highs in an injury season. There may be several, but these two come to mind quickly…And really, the odds that Brett would have maintained that .390 pace on a full season were poor. The longer the season it seems the less pace applies…

Just a few short weeks ago, Ruthie and I paid a visit to the Colorado Gator farm which is located a few miles up the road from us. We enjoyed the visit and vowed to go back in warm weather.
This morning at about 4:30 AM a fire was reported there, and massive destruction of the facility, especially the reptile barn cost the lives of many of the animals.
There were snakes there that were give or take twenty feet long. Tortoises, massive lizards, even house cats that lived in the barn to control the rodent population and would greet visitors have died.

[br Almost every one of those beautiful creatures were abandoned pets. Fortunately the gators and the couple crocs and Caimans they had were unharmed. I don’t think the core fish farm business was damaged either. The building was old, a bit shabby. But those animals appeared well housed and cared for. I was hoping that I might get a chance to assist in handling some of those snakes one day. It takes several people to carry them because of their length and weight…

Next up at 91.4 WAR and no MVPs is Wade Boggs. After Boggs there is a significant drop off in WAR, but I’ll soldier on a bit longer since some of these guys are in the HOF discussion.
Boggs is difficult to find minutae on. Everybody knows about his batting titles. They know about his chicken eating, and about Margo. David Letterman once said that Boggs batted .800 with women in scoring position.
Here’s what we have. It’s not a great one, but I found it interesting, and wasn’t aware:
It was reported that Boggs had been offered financial compensation by his final MLB team, TBD, to be shown wearing their cap on his HOF plaque. Sensing that this could lead to avoidable controversy, the Hall decided in 2001 to change its practice of deferring to players' wishes regarding cap logo selection & reinforced the Hall's authority to determine with which cap the player would be depicted. Boggs is wearing a Boston cap on his HOF plaque.
In 1985 Boggs set a still-standing RedSox franchise record with 72 multi-hit games.
This last one is a bit odd. Only Ty Cobb and Wade Boggs have pitched in a MLB game prior to getting their 3,000th hit, then pitched in another game after getting #3,000. If that doesn’t squeeze every drop out of the lemon for minutae for you, there’s not much more I can offer…

There may be several, but these two come to mind quickly…And really, the odds that Brett would have maintained that .390 pace on a full season were poor. The longer the season it seems the less pace applies… I recall that specific incident very vividly -- it was at Yankee Stadium and on national TV as the CBS Game of the Week. Kaline made a diving catch to end the game and broke his collarbone in the process. There was a kind of consensus that from roughly the mid-50s to the mid-60s, Kaline was the second best all-around OFer in the American League after Mantle. He had his best year in his age 20 season, when he became the youngest player to ever win a batting title, edging out his Detroit predecessor Ty Cobb. Kaline ended up with 399 home runs for his career. In his final game in 1974, played at Tiger Stadium, Kaline was at the then-new position of DH and took himself out of the game after the third inning, thus depriving himself (and the fans) of the chance to see him become the first AL player to ever have 3,000 hits and 400 home runs, a distinction Carl Yastrzemski would claim five years later. Kaline was very old school, noting that he was "not a stat guy," but later acknowledging that it was probably the biggest mistake of his career to not give himself a shot at hitting that 400th home run. He said he didn't appreciate the significance of it and did not recognize that the fans felt let down. He was such a solid pro, intelligent situational hitter and one of the best throwing arms from right field of his era. Similar to Roger Maris in that respect, although Kaline was a better all-around performer than Roger. Not sure who you are thinking of having a career season cut short by injuries, but two spring to my mind -- JR Richard in 1980, who was having by far his greatest year when a stroke ended not just his season but his career, and Troy Tulowitzki in 2014, who was hitting .340 with an OPS+ of 170 when a hip injury put him out of commission after 91 games. Hard to believe he's just 38 years old -- his last full season was seven years ago -- I loved his couple of days with the Yanks and the fact that he had that one home run as a parting gift that meant so much to him. He was another real pro.
