Marwin playing in Japan and hit's his fifth homer of the season. He hit 6 for the Yanks all of last season. Not sure if he was ever a Yankee legend. I think he was still a good player, but being second or third string utility man kept him on the bench too much to be able to get in a rhythm and produce. The only MLB players that seem to struggle in Japan are the ones that have difficulty adapting to the culture there. The baseball is the easy part. I think it’s a notch below AAA. That doesn’t mean there’s no talent there, I just see a bigger gap between the best players and the average players…

Just had an appointment with my Oncologist and she said my lungs looked great. No more cancer. Will do a follow up CT-scan in six months. I was really worried, but turned out as good as it gets. Thanks to all of you for your support.

Hey pipps, Nick Charles knew how to make a martini. Nick and Nora Charles are my all-time favorite couple and Asta is my all-time favorite dog and Dashiell Hammett, to whom I am distantly related, is my all-time favorite mystery writer. We have seen every Thin Man movie multiple times and they never grow old. Cheers to you for, unsurprisingly, recognizing ultimate style!! In my book, there are three fictional characters who should have existed in real life -- Bertie Wooster, The Lone Ranger and Nick Charles.

Wouldn't that be the life? Marry into wealth, enjoy the finer things, stay on good terms with the people you send to prison. Obviously the films stray far from the original novel, which holds up well in its own right. Hammett also gave us "The Maltese Falcon" and another fine novel "The Glass Key." William Powell was a very cool guy in real life as well. Kind, elegant and modest. Married to Carole Lombard and then engaged to Jean Harlowe, who was the true love of his life before her sad early death. And yes Myrna Loy was indeed tres chaude. Perfect match for Powell, with whom she made 14 movies.

I would have to add Sherlock Holmes and Nero Wolfe. And, if we have Bertie - Old Sport - then there must be the estimable Jeeves to serve him his oolong tea.

A great cast in his final film -- James Cagney, Henry Fonda, Jack Lemmon -- even Ward Bond and Ken Curtis. Powell lived almost 30 more years after that, but he didn't want to be a shuffling old man in movies and had no problem away from the spotlight. Another one of his best was "Life With Father."

For sure, Bertie wouldn't last long without Jeeves wafting in with a cup of the steaming.
