It’s not quite Switzerland like Pipps, but we’re on a day trip. Went to the extreme southern portion of Colorado, very deserted and filthy with deer, cross a mountain pass at about 10,500 feet before crossing into New Mexico. The ground was snow covered at the top, but the roads were clear. Grabbing (another) burger in Chama, New Mexico, just under 8,000 ft. Elevation. Beautiful sunshine, 66 degrees. We’re going to make a circle of it, crossing another pass on NM 64 before heading north again and back home. Probably home around 3:30-4:30. Just in time for today’s Oriole feather-plucking 🪶… (although I may fall asleep during this one if we get too far ahead)… went to bed at 1:30 AM, up at 5:30… My doctor wants me to stop taking Ambien. I tried taking only about 70% of the 5 MG dose last night and I had to get back up and take the rest of the pill. I’m an addict… Sounds like a great day trip. Gloria and I will do that around Vermont on occasion. She loves to explore new places while my mind is mostly one where to eat. Have a safe trip back. I’m getting to be such a puss. 250 miles and now I have to pry my eyes open for the game. Nice trip all-around. It was an area I had considered moving there at one point, but I like it here better. The one thing that as nice was that we got in the western side of the mountains where there’s more rain fall. That and gushing creeks from the thaw on the mountains made it very pretty and green there. As soon as we crossed back into the New Mexico end of the valley we live in, we saw our typical brown fields and sage brush again. Nice to be home. The burgers only got a “C” from Ruth and I. They were supposed to be 1/3 of a pound, but if they were 1/4 pound I’d be surprised. Over-cooked, even by my standards. Ruthie asked for Mayo and they were out. I asked for unsweetened tea and was offered an alternative “plant based” energy drink, so I had water. And for two burgers the tab was $38, plus tip. We split an order of fries as well…

I’m the explorer, anc Ruthie wants the food. In fact, she’s usually quite disoriented and doesn’t remember where we’ve been unless I feed her some details about the trip. Like what she ate and where the restaurant was… 🤓 She’s enjoyed seeing the deer today 🦌… How'd you cook the deer?

If it was overcooked by your standards, I'm thinking something close to a briquet. That's pretty pricey for a couple burgers and no mayo, no tea.

I had heard how gorgeous and charming it was. It turned out to be a tourist trap. Not my cup of tea, especially since they didn’t have any. The drive was a nice mountain drive, and I’m sure it’s a nice cool respite on a hot summer day in the lowlands of New Mexico. It was a disappointment for me… I’ll stay in Colorado, or head north. I’d give Nevada a passing glance, though. Certain parts of it. Way north of the gambling meccas…
