Shout out to Yangervis Solarte and Zelous Wheeler too. Not to mention Peter LaCock and Mickey Klutts. We've kind of had a thing around here about quirky names. Nineteenth century player Tony Suck is accorded universal respect in that realm. Wasn't Pete LaCock Peter Marshall's son? I heard a story that Bob Gibson knew it was time to hang them up when he gave up a HR to Pete LaCock. Yes...LaCock probably wouldn't have worked as a game show host.

When Jim Gott faced Tim Teufel it was a battle between good & evil (in Germany).

I think Peter Sr. knew that unless he wanted to star in porn movies, he had to clean up that name to get the "Hollywood Squares" gig.

Easy for me to remember since I share 2/3 of my name with Peter Marshall's.

Gates Brown! One of my favorite MLB names, along with Nate Colbert, and Socrates Brito. I loved Gates Brown the very first second I saw his name. “Gates”. Who in the Hell names their child Gates? The man was destined to go to jail the second he emerged from the womb, right? Only his name is actually William… 😂 “Now pinch-hitting for the Tigers is William Brown.” It’s just not the same. A Rose by any other name is still a Peter (sorry, ladies), but a brown must be a Gates to be enjoyed…

He played at the Varsity Theater on the LSU campus my freshman year. Good times!

At this point every one of our new female posters is embracing this thread or packing up their keyboards for greener pastures… The references started long before your particular post. Here’s the deal though. They’ve been posting with a group of men for quite a while at the other site. I suspect they’re not thin of skin or long of toes or they wouldn’t have been around long enough to have ever even joined here. I hope they stay…

I’m finally going to tell this story. I was going to let it go, but I can’t forget this. Two weeks ago I was shopping at Wal-Mart, picking up some groceries.
The check out girl was about 20 +/-. As I sat a canned drink on the belt I noticed that it was dented, and I thought about refusing it because I wasn’t sure the opening tab would work.
So the girl notices me looking at the can and volunteers “I’m authorized to give you a 10% discount on that.” So I tell her okay. The drink is $1.09.
She then pulls out a calculator and punches some keys. She frowns and says “That can’t be right. I’ll start over. After hitting what looked like about 20 entries she triumphantly declares, “Looks like about 10 cents.”
At least she “about got it right.”
That’s the deal with the coming artificial intelligence. We’re going to need it. True story...

How about early Yankees player Klondike Smith, modern players: Frank Funk, Choo-Choo Coleman, Duke Maas Clipper
