This looks like a good place to jump back in from An Undisclosed Location somewhere in the Peloponnesian Peninsula. What I can tell you is that there are repeated warnings about "destructive cold" as daytime highs have only been reaching into the 50s Fahrenheit (I do a lot of quick x9/5 +32 calculations) and lows have hit into the 30s, which they are not used to. Still, in the yard of the house we are renting, oranges, lemons and grapefruit are in peak form and the owner told us to take as many as we want. Of course we're having a great time. It would be our own fault if we weren't. Will write when I find work. Fire Cashman. That is all. Glad you are having a great time pipps! I am quickly checkin in from frigid Ottawa Canada where we are having a famjam. Lots of fun! See you all when I return Monday!

Funny...you do get acclimated to the temps here. 100 is no big deal, and 60 does feel a bit chilly. Right now it says 61...feels like 73 (in the sun). My only complaint about the winter is when it snows. Don't care for the heat and humidity, a tee shirt and shorts doesn't do much to cool off. In the winter a warm jacket does wonders.

When we lived in Syracuse we occasionally ran up there just to see a place with even worse winter weather. I mainly recall the ice skaters on the Rideau Canal and as I believe someone previously mentioned the ice sculptures. My experience left me with an abiding conviction not to ever live in a place capable of having ice sculpture competition.

Holy cow. You guys are getting blasted. We’re starting a warming trend with days in the thirties (even some high thirties) and nights around 10 or so. I didn’t think I’d see temps that high again until March… It's crazy how up and down the weather is. On Christmas Eve morning I was running outside in shorts, now it's Chiberia out there.
Chiberia, what a great nickname and appropriate too. I saw the kind of temperatures that Chicago is going to have this week. Growing up my friends and me would call that kind of weather "great football weather."

My wife is from Chicago. Most of her family is still there, so we go back frequently. I've been there when the weather is as you just referred to...even more brutal when "The Hawk" is blowin'. I'm used to serious winters, having lived in Colorado for many years and up in The Adirondacks for several years. I keep a snow shovel hanging in my garage as a reminder every time I start to betch about the heat here. The winter had been mild until the new year. Now we're getting a bunch of wind and snow and now ice cold temps. It's days like this that make me wonder why I'm not living in San Diego. If cost of living were no object, I think I would have settled in Coronado, right across from San Diego. At least the Coronado of 20-30 years ago. Not so sure about my formerly beloved California anymore.

Enjoy your visit Kaybli. I grew up on the Canadian border in Ogdensburg, NY, which is 50 miles from Ottawa. We would drive to Ottawa often to shop, sight see, have dinner (especially Chinese), skate on the canal, see the Ice Sculptures on Dow Lake and attend the Festival of Spring (the Tulip Festival). We still take our boat over to Brockville for dinner frequently. We still have a camp on the St. Lawerence River that we stay at in the Summer. If you're driving, watch out for "lake effect" storms. There are high wind and storm warnings this weekend in the North Country. Oburg Bob Hey Bob, many years ago I stopped in Ogdensburg to see the Frederic Remington Museum. It had a nice exhibit of his works as I recall. Pretty country, although I was there in summer, which as far as I can tell is the only season without whiteouts.

He was hired by the Padres in '16 to replace Dick Enberg, and now resides in Coronado. Probably prefers it there to New England winters.

I never heard the reason Boston let him go. My first time on Coronado Island was in the early 80s to attend a conference there at the Hotel Del in February. I was living in DC at the time. It made a really strong impression as you might imagine. I know at times the Del has gotten a little shopworn through the years, and I haven't been there in maybe ten years, but I have been back multiple times and have great affection for it. Likewise the Biltmore in your neck of the woods and the Brown Palace in your former residence. Old school places with great histories.

I stole Chiberia from local photographer Barry Butler, who takes some of the best pictures of the city that you'll ever see. Wasn't it amazing when we were kids, and the weather never bothered us? We'd play football in any weather, now I don't even want to go out and get the mail.

There are a couple of historic hotel restorations in Las Vegas, New Mexico (The Plaza & Castaneda Hotel) we'd like to check out. Another is La Posada in Winslow, AZ. We stopped by there briefly on one of our recent road trips...has a very cool history. Winslow...of course known for...

We lived in Santa Fe in the mid-80s and loved visiting that other Las Vegas. Winter 2022 we spent mostly in Sedona and loved it. It was fortunately pretty quiet. We love the old Route 66 towns so of course made trips to Flagstaff-- it looks just like the kind of place "The Fugitive" would have found temporary work -- and there was a fun old hotel there the Monte Vista whose bar we patronized regularly. We made side overnight trips to Holbrook just to stay in The Wigwam -- what a hoot, good strictly for the anecdote potential -- went to Hubbell(sp?) Trading Post which we love and on the way back did stay at La Posada in Winslow. It was very nice, I would recommend it. It took a lot of waiting to get a photo of that mural of standing on the corner because like the Abbey Road crosswalk the picture posing never ends. There is also a great Rt. 66 La Posada in ABQ, although that downtown at night has gotten a bit dicey. We just love the southwest. Gallup is cool for the Navajo rugs and general ambiance. Yes, for sure the Broadmoor is beautiful. Likewise you mentioned the Sagamore, more old school charm. Perhaps the Southern equivalent to that is Jekyll Island Club in Georgia. You obviously know that part of the country well. Love all that stuff. Our all-too-infrequent poster bearman is a veteran of the South Carolina Beach Music scene, so if the shag-dancing culture has come across your radar, be sure to plunge in on the music thread.

I like the fact that we only get about 28 of snow here. Everybody thinks Colorado? You must like shoveling snow! Nope. Most of our snows are about 1/2” of light powder. Now, the winter wind, tgat can be a bit brutal, but I stay in the house when it gets that way as much as I can. 🥶 Living at 7600 feet to have hot, but not beastly hot summers…

Growing up I didn't care about the heat and humidity, except for 1 extremely hot and humid summer day when I was pitching and almost passed out for not listening to my Catcher and Coach that both told me to "pace myself."
