Straight I should say, not flat... of course, he has better luck with it than Burnsworth

Straight I should say, not flat... of course, he has better luck with it than Burnsworth The key to his fastball is backspin. and lots of it. At 97, 98 it carries deep into the zone. In other words, it doesn’t sink where most pitcher’s do because it had so much spin/velocity in combination. There is a bit of arm-side run, but that’s not crucial to what he’s doing...The backspin does make the pitch tend to be hit in the air, but not necessarily squared up. Batters will often hit the underside of the ball, as it appears to rise (because it doesn’t sink)...

Just when Glasnow was getting into a good rhythm, he gets yanked.

Cole had 73 straight innings with at least one strikeout broken tonight. That’s amazing.

Well doesn't look like the rays are going to be able to pull this off. If any consolation Verlander or Cole won't start game one so maybe the Yankees will be able to win one in Houston.

When the Rays fell behind early, I figured that they had a puncher’s chance to come back. They really only threw one punch, so it appears they either weren’t interested or the Astros were just too big for them to begin with, and the last two games were just an illusion...

You should start a scouting blog... even if you're just using other people's information.. your interpretations and ability to communicate it are on point Inger does make the best pitcher scouting reports! I only became interested in pitching recently. My game was a simple see it, hit it. A good pitcher could have eaten me alive, but we really didn’t see many. A good fielder on the left side could have eaten me alive. I was always looking to pull. I often would let pitch after pitch goby until two strikes if I didn’t get just what I wanted, which was probably my biggest strength. Somehow I never gave much thought to what a pitcher was trying to do. Sometimes I felt I knew what they were going to do, but it was more of an instinctual feeling. I’m primarily an instinctual being. So, I know only minimal information. In, out, up, down. Change speeds. Edges of the zone. Look for something in “your zone”. To me, most of that was simple instinct, still is. If I have any kind of power to influence clearly, I’d be much more excited to use it to clarify the issues that most seem to confound mankind. Unfortunately, I find an audience that doesn’t care for what I say. (:
