Here's a copy of the post I just made in another thread about Larry.
Larry had a long run with the Yankees, but I guess there was just one too many cases of Yankee pitchers tipping pitches in big games and not being able to make the adjustments to prevent this. There's already rumors out there of Larry joining Girardi in Philly.

It was time. They need to hire some new blood.

I wasn’t looking for them to change coaches but it doesn’t bother me at all. They just signed a new minor league pitching coordinator. They should have a consistent approach towards pitching and other teams (Astros) have more success than we do in helping pitchers to transform. And we have these lingering tipping issues coming up in big spots which is hard to explain or defend. I don’t scapegoat him for anything but he’s certainly not above responsibility. I do think there’s more to the story but we’ll see.

CC got old. Larry’s fault. Sevy got injured. Larry’s fault. Maple tipped his pitches. Larry’s fault. Cortez got over-exposed. Larry’s fault. Chapman hung a slider. Larry’s fault. Tanaka lost his splitter grip. Larry’s fault. Won 100+ back to back. No thanks to Larry.
Seriously, he had reached his expiration date... I don’t know if this will really make difference, but it will be interesting to see. I’m quite sure he’ll work as long as he wants to...

Sonny Gray.. Larry's Fault... Sonny certainly thought so but the facts don’t support him.

Sonny Gray.. Larry's Fault... Sonny certainly thought so but the facts don’t support him. Are you referring to how he said the Yankees made him throw more sliders and that's why he said he sucked with the Yankees but he threw the same percentage with the Reds?

He was complaining that the Yankees wanted him to throw it for a strike even when he was behind in the count... he might have the same % of sliders thrown this year, but he only used them ahead in the count, as a put away pitch, out of the zone... www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2019/5/23/18635027/sonny-gray-cincinnati-reds-new-york-yankees-baseball-savant-slider-movement-fastball-spin-rateArticle also says since moving to the Reds his slider improved.. also from the above link: Gray talked about how the Reds introduced him to spin efficiency. Gray has one of the best fastball spin rates in baseball, but because of his arm slot, his spin efficiency is lower. High spin fastballs resist gravity better than low spin heaters, but only if thrown just so. Gray’s fastball is thrown in a way that’s more conducive to cutting action.

I think the whole "Reds introduced him to spin efficiency" is a reason to let Rothschild go... because HE SHOULD'VE DONE THAT!!!!

I think Sonny Gray is a mentally weak person who isn’t accountable for his own performance and who otherwise is of poor character. So he’s looking for someone to blame. What’s reported in this article was known before he went to the Reds, it was the reason the Yankees went out of their way to trade for him. His response to performing at a mediocre level (and having his questionable social media history exposed) is the reason they went out of their way to dump him. We might be better off without Larry Rothschild but for sure we are better off without Sonny Gray.

I don’t know Sonny Gray well enough to judge his character and haven’t looked at his social media account. He certainly struggled to pitch in NY, and maybe to fit in socially. Sometimes good people disagree or dislike certain aspects of management and need to move on.
Overall, I think of myself as a pretty decent guy. I’d rather not have people dredge up things I said or did as a teen or in my early twenties. They weren’t perfect things. When we take a man at his lowest measure in his worst times, we often see things that are offensive or disappointing. People do make changes as they live. When it’s done right, living is learning.
I hope Gray succeeds and continues to grow as a human being. The same with Rothschild, who incidentally is the same age as me. The need to have to continue to strive to remain relevant in life is fine with me, and likely with him, too. If it is, he’ll grab another job and do so.
I’m not going to stand up and defend Gray, nor condemn Rothschild. Relationships go awry. Sometimes one person in the relationship is more at fault than the other. More often, they both are...
PS: The only thing I saw Tweeted by Gray was a reply he sent someone that read:
1. You didn’t finish college. 2. You are black.
That’s it. I didn’t see the Tweet he was replying to or commenting on, so with that small amount of information, I’m baffled as to what went on...Do I care about the rest of the incident? Maybe. On a minimalistic level...

The times I saw him pitch he'd get ahead in the count 0-2 or 1-2 and then start nibbling. Next thing you know it's 3-2 and he's walking the guy (because, you know, you don't want to throw a strike when you're behind in the count) or he'd get hammered. It was maddening to watch.
