Wasn't this the thread on cheating? Or did I wander into the wrong thread by mistake? I find it fascinating that we have have a music thread, but any thread on the forum can become the music thread at any moment...Especially when a one hit wonder pops up in the conversation... And Russ, c’mon man. Chill. Like, this IS going to happen again, and (You’re A) Fool I You Think It’s Over... 🤪

I was sort of waiting for the flashy light thingies to come around. But maybe they don't work in the off season. "“We looked into it; we couldn’t find any evidence that what had been asserted to us was true.” But it was true! The Astros were stealing opposing teams’ signs. Those teams told the league that they believed the Astros were stealing their signs. MLB failed to find “any evidence” of this. That progression, as detailed by the commissioner himself, essentially says that the league cannot be relied upon to find wrongdoing where we now know it exists. Either the investigations department is not very good at its job or the league didn’t take credible accusations of cheating very seriously to begin with. Manfred wants it to be known that his office didn’t bury evidence of the Astros’ sign stealing until public outcry forced them to reckon with it — just that they were never capable of finding any (any?!) such evidence in the first place. He’s relying on ignorance as a defense and in the process, admitting incompetence." sports.yahoo.com/rob-manfreds-words-say-mlb-cant-be-trusted-to-root-out-sign-stealing-cheating-141308357.html

That is strictly reserved for folks who wander out of game threads... Which is why you bait people to do it. Yep. I’m on to you, boy. Gonna be watching... But, if we must talk about this cheating thing... does MLB even HAVE an investigations department? I’ve never heard of it if they do... Reminds me of a meeting I sat in at a major (really, really major. think DuPont. Damn, gave it away). Anyway, the DuPont Experimental facility near Wilmington, DE wanted some propane tanks added as well as some replacements and upgrades. Their safety department is one of about three or four that I’ve dealt with that are so stringent that you truly almost have to out-slicker them to be able to install a job on site. Our facility manager was in attendance, and he used a trick that I put in my quiver and have used myself since. At one point in this meeting one of Dupont’s lead engineers suddenly blurts out, “what is your policy in regard to earthquake and earthquake remediation” and stared across the table at myself and the clever manager. The room was frozen. This was the point where DuPont projects wound up on the cutting room floor, delayed for years while the details were hashed out. My manager’s reply was genius. “Since we don’t have one, we will simply yield to yours”. Earthquake discussion over, moving on... 😂 Yes, the mighty DuPont had no policy... 😂😹😂

I think they need a new commissioner
"Cubs lefty Jon Lester, a three-time World Series champion - with the Boston Red Sox in 2007 and 2013, and Chicago in 2016 - had some choice words for the commissioner earlier Tuesday.
“That’s somebody that has never played our game. You play for a reason, you play for that piece of metal. I’m very proud of the three that I have,” Lester said at Cubs camp in Mesa, Arizona. "If that’s the way he feels, then he needs to take his name off the trophy.”
Lester said the first thing he shows visitors at his house is the displayed trophies he has won.
"I'm proud of them. That’s a lot of years, a lot of hard work. You can’t just bring it down like that,” the five-time All-Star said."
How the heck do you call the trophy a "piece of metal"
sports.yahoo.com/manfred-apologizes-calling-ws-trophy-piece-metal-000538355--mlb.html
He claims they can do nothing to the players because the union negotiated a blanket immunity. Which is the first I have heard of that.

He claims they can do nothing to the players because the union negotiated a blanket immunity. Which is the first I have heard of that. I understood that there was a blanket immunity granted. I just don’t quite understand how that is supposed to be acceptable to fans of the sport...The commissioner’s knees buckled immediately. He has zero power. With his allegiance being to the owners and being beholden to them to keep his job, he is basically going to do what the owners want...

I’m sure there are layers upon layers of politics to the way this has been handled. It’s not really Manfred’s “fault”. We have no idea what he would do if he wasn’t merely a figurehead and really had some power. He accepted a pussy job, so now he has to be a pussy...

Another sign the union is clueless and does not represent its members. Who are the ones really upset here.

An interesting review of the issues by SI www.si.com/mlb/2020/02/18/houston-astros-cheating-scandal-mlbpaI think that 1) we need a commissioner who has some real involvement in baseball, that it is not just another business. and 2) its interesting that only players seem to be upset. I have not heard any of the owners really come forward and express unhappiness even the Yankee and LA owners.

I find it fascinating that none of the owners seem upset about this. Only the players. GS would have had fits.
"They see the emotional pain of losing. They see all the work that gets put in only to have it stolen. They see the danger of being a pitcher and having a batter sit on a fastball — there’s a reason pitchers throw from behind a net in batting practice, when hitters know what pitch is coming."
A good point someone could really have gotten clobbered.
"He said the player’s union wanted immunity for the players, but the MLBPA said it was offered right away. "
So he tried to shift the blame to the union.
sports.yahoo.com/why-rob-manfred-should-reconsider-stripping-the-astros-world-series-title-211002375.html
"What he apparently didn’t foresee is something he may not have even known to focus on, that the people who play the game would view this entire saga in a very different light.
The players want their peers punished, humiliated, called out. Or worse.
“I feel like every single guy over there needs a beating,” Atlanta outfielder Nick Markakis said.
The commissioner didn’t dole out justice. So now it may go vigilante-style, beanballs and spikes-up slides."

Altuve and Correa better wear catching gear when he takes the diamond.

Fier should have done something to stop all the cheating while he was there. Correa is really the victim in all this.
