Might as well start a new thread for all things related to the cheating scandal. Sources: MLB contacts Astros, Red Sox as sign-stealing investigation expandsMajor League Baseball's investigation into illegal sign stealing is expected to expand beyond the 2017 Houston Astros and look into whether other teams, including the 2019 Astros, used technology to aid hitters, sources familiar with the situation told ESPN. The fallout from former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers telling The Athletic that the 2017 Astros used a center-field camera feed in a monitor near the dugout to steal and relay signs has rocked the sport and brought into question the methods used by people involved in at least the past three World Series, sources said. The initial stages of the investigation already have begun, sources said, with league personnel contacting people from both the Astros and Boston Red Sox organizations Wednesday. The league is attempting to cull tangible evidence from the widespread paranoia of front offices and teams around the game about others cheating and has indicated it will consider levying long suspensions against interviewees who are found to have lied, according to sources. While there is considerable crossover between the 2017 and 2019 Astros teams, multiple witnesses who were not with the 2017 team are expected to be interviewed, sources said. Among those the league plans to interview in its investigation are Astros manager AJ Hinch, Red Sox manager Alex Cora and New York Mets manager Carlos Beltran, according to sources. The three were part of the 2017 Astros championship team -- Hinch the manager, Cora the bench coach and Beltran a player. Their involvement in the investigation was first reported by The Athletic. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28078579/sources-mlb-contacts-astros-red-sox-sign-stealing-investigation-expands

Here’s a way we can improve baseball and umpiring in one quick, easy step. Call the McMahon family, owners of the WWE. We can get them to write story lines for each team next season and rotate all of their referees in with our umpiring crews. On any given day, a former strictly MLB umpire might be using his blindness to referee a wrestling match, and an openly cheating referee could be behind the plate in an MLB game.
First pitch: “Strike, two, three”. Batter: “That was a fast count”. <team mate brings a table out of clubhouse. Ump is laid out on table. Batter climbs screen behind home plate and leaps onto the umpire. SPLAT!
Plus, can’t wait to see Joe West debut in the ring, fall atop wrestlers, spleens crushing all over the place...
I’m really sickened by this crap. Sickened, but not really surprised...

Sign stealing has been a part of baseball since almost the instant the game started to develop the sophistication of strategy. The thing is that the new technology has taken the job of figuring out the signs to a level that is outside of the players hands.
It was sort of innocent when some coach or player was clever enough to solve a “code”. Then the opposition would change the code. There’s just too much chicanery now.
Cheating through the years has involved:
Visual sign stealing (good old fashioned way)
Hiding extra baseballs in outfield grass that was purposely kept tall
Watering heavy or light to suit your team
Sloping baselines to control bunts
PEDs
Binoculars in stands and bullpens
Sabotaging bullpen phones
Sharpening spikes
Bribes
Birth of Pete Rose (:
This one is really out of hand. It’s rivaling the Black Sox in my mind...

What happens when the light is turned on Red Sox and Astros personnel involved in sign stealing:

I wonder how big of a story this will become? There should be some heavy fines layed out to the Houston organization and maybe even the individuals involved and the media should be all over this story. Or will it be forgotten about once the first big free agent signs?

I hope MLB is strict in punishing those involved... and I'm very disappointed in Beltran

Or will it be forgotten about once the first big free agent signs? I’m sure MLB is hoping for a signing soon to take the heat off... I’m thinking there SHOULD be a lifetime suspension or two. I’m also thinking there WON’T be any lifetime suspensions...As for a team punishment, what would be appropriate? Loss of top draft picks? Maybe, but that may weaken competitiveness. Not that what they did helped competitiveness... I know! They should lose top draft picks to the Yankees. Yeah. Baseball would really do that...!

I predict nothing meaningful will be done.

I predict nothing meaningful will be done. You pessimestic f*ck!!!! jk... I agree with you. Nothing meaningful will be done. Maybe fine the team... give a suspension to Hinch? ... I just googled Apple Watch and Boston was fined an "undisclosed" amount... so expect something similar... It's got to be "harsher" this time... that's the only reason I'm thinking Hinch might be suspended... Found this out too: MLB did make it clear to all teams that any similar future transgressions will be handled more harshly and will involve picks. SO I guess they HAVE to lose draft picks... probably nothing too franchise altering... I mean , pretty much , they cheated to win the World Series and flags fly forever... even if they're tainted... so losing a couple draft picks and a small fine... might have been worth it to cheat... If I was commish, I'd do a lot more than suspend the managers involved... Hinch, Cora, and Beltran would be getting bans... just to show I was serious... but FUGGETBOUTIT... that ain't happening..

I will be surprised if picks will be lost. And fines are meaningless at the amounts that will be placed. I am not sure even picks matters. I think they should use real penalties or quit pretending.
