lol, players arrived for spring training a little differently in 1936. Fantastic! Paisanos! Helping out their newbie Italian teammate! All three of those guys were known for being taciturn. I think it was Crosetti who said that the entire conversation for three thousand miles consisted of "Hello" when they got in the car and "Goodbye" when they reached Florida. Great photo of three Yankee legends,Chi. Those of us of a certain age can remember Cro as the long-time Yankee third base coach. Between his time as player and coach, he has more World Series rings than any player in MLB history.

Do you know who has the record for most rings as a player without looking it up? Yogi. Yup! Too easy of a question for this board!

lol, players arrived for spring training a little differently in 1936. Fantastic! Paisanos! Helping out their newbie Italian teammate! Hey Rizz, your post got me thinking about an all-time Yankees Italian team. You could put together a pretty strong squad. I limited it to guys who played a significant portion of their careers with the Yankees. So Rocky Colavito doesn't qualify. And for the record, Lou Piniella (Spanish) and Mike Mussina (almost every ethnicity except Italian -- the name goes back to Sephardic Judaism) can't play either. First Base -- Jason Giambi Second Base -- Tony Lazzeri Shortstop -- Phil Rizzuto Third Base -- Mike Pagliarulo OF -- Joe DiMaggio OF -- Dan Pasqua OF -- Joe Pepitone C -- Yogi Berra P -- Vic Raschi, Dave Righetti Two weak links in the OF. Joe Pepitone, while mainly a first baseman, did play some OF and I couldn't come up with anyone else. I also may be forgetting somebody -- this is top of the head stuff. But four HOFers, not too shabby. And your choice of manager from Joe Torre, Billy Martin, Joe Girardi or Yogi himself as playing manager. Excellente!

My mom just bought me a book about Billy Martin (didn't know he was one of us). Gonna start reading it tonight. I'd vote Torre for the manager. Joey D the great Italian baseball player ever?

Hopefully it's nothing serious... but last season it didn't seem anything "serious" kept him from missing time...
