Castroville! Of course. Good Norma Jean/artichoke knowledge. I have often wondered how desperate someone had to have been to figure out that artichokes are edible. Artichokes? No thanks, but I’ll have a serving of that queen. No, none of those sound like my kind of festivals. I mean, I do like garlic. And I do like ice cream. But garlic ice cream? Escargot ice cream? No thank you. I did discover recently that I can add McCormick Italian spices and garlic salt to those Stouffer’s Italian dishes, lasagna and baked ziti and make them taste decent enough to eat them in a pinch. I’m guessing that somewhere in the world at sometime just about anything is going to be sampled by some one or some tribe. Anteater snout? If people eat Rocky Mountain oysters there’s probably been elephant oysters sampled too, right? I’ll stick to my bland palate, which has now disincluded most fast foods with the exception of Chik-Fil-A. I’ve noticed that the size of their serving has been modified and that the oil they cook in has been changed. But it’s still tasty. And you can eat there for under $10 per person and get reasonably full. Now that was an idea. Rocky Mountain Oyster ice cream. Elephant balls. No more killing elephants just for their ivory tusks…

If anyone was a fan of campy horror films, then the name of actor Peter Cushing is well known to you. I found this song quite amusing. Now, if Pipps has heard of this one, I'll recline in prostration, respect, and resignation:

He was also Van Helsing in Dracula films, Sherlock Holmes, Victor Frankenstein, and loads of other characters.

The group is called Hammer Horror and it's of course named after Hammer Film Productions. Cushing, Christopher Lee, Oliver Reed and many more ghoulish actors are discussed as well as lots of still pictures from the films of half naked women.

Usually in a large white smock.

Now, if Pipps has heard of this one, I'll recline in prostration, respect, and resignation: I hope you won't think less of me Rizz, but I'm afraid I don't know that song. I see it was recorded in 1986, the point at which I just began losing touch with popular music. Peter Cushing, of course, impossible not to know him if you enjoyed schlock horror films. My first thought in listening to Jellybotty was that their effort sounded somewhat derivative of a 1966 hit song by a band I know quite well called the Blues Magoos. To wit: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOWOdKs6KUo

Desousa, I am sure you remember from that same era Seattle-based The Electric Prunes ("I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night" and "Get Me To The World On Time.") Another great band name. We also had at that time Ultimate Spinach and Peanut Butter Conspiracy and Atomic Rooster. A later member of the Magoos -- not on their big hit "We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet," but right toward the end of their run -- was a guy from Wilmington DE named Ted Munda. My brother and I played many times with Ted and did several gigs with his band The Enfields. Talented band but never made it out of Delaware. Through Ted we met Pepe Castro, lead singer of the Magoos and a Bronx boy Yankee fan. A pretty thin connection, but the only one I have.

Reminds me of when i was a kid and my dad would let me stay up late on Friday nights and watch the 11:00 creature feature. Saw lots of schlock horror flicks (which I love to this day) including such classics as The Beginning of the End (giant locusts and starring the guy that was Paul Drake on Perry Mason), The Giant Behemoth (as opposed to, you know, small behemoths), This Island Earth (with Russell Johnson of Gilligan's Island fame) and many others along with many Hammer and Ray Harryhausen (sp?) films. Of course, Peter Cushing was a stalwart of late night horror films.

From the same year (1959) that gave us "The Killer Shrews" (starring James Best and Ken Curtis) and "The Giant Gila Monster." In fact Ken Curtis produced both of those masterpieces and both were filmed near Dallas. Perhaps in his ample free time Rizzuto can issue a field report on this. Put some miles on that rental car.
