The Blues Magoos is one of my all time favorite band names. They were also called Psychedelic Lollipop. Desousa, I am sure you remember from that same era Seattle-based The Electric Prunes ("I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night" and "Get Me To The World On Time.") Another great band name. We also had at that time Ultimate Spinach and Peanut Butter Conspiracy and Atomic Rooster. A later member of the Magoos -- not on their big hit "We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet," but right toward the end of their run -- was a guy from Wilmington DE named Ted Munda. My brother and I played many times with Ted and did several gigs with his band The Enfields. Talented band but never made it out of Delaware. Through Ted we met Pepe Castro, lead singer of the Magoos and a Bronx boy Yankee fan. A pretty thin connection, but the only one I have. I do remember The Electric Prunes and I Had too Much to Dream Last Night, but not Get Me to the World On Time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBkiPtOm1V0

Next you'll be showing us video of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini. [Note: Please don't show such a video if you should find one] Sheb Wooley of Purple People infamy was a regular on "Rawhide" for many years playing scout Pete Nolan, helping Gil Favor and Rowdy Yates navigate the trails from Texas into the stockyards of Kansas. He was also in several well-known movies including "High Noon" and "Hoosiers " As for Brian Hyland, who inflicted Itsy Bitsy on us, he was actually quite talented and recorded plenty of good stuff after that one. I had him on my radio show -- heckuva nice guy and the women at the station were swooning-- and he hates the song. But he was only 15 when he recorded it and his record company was trying to groom him as a teen idol. He had some hits in the mid to late 60s like "The Joker Went Wild" and "Run Run Look And See" and a cover of The Impressions "Gypsy Woman." But he had many others that had only middling chart success but were excellent pop songs. A Queens boy who last I checked was still out there.

If I have to see another Aaron Hicks AB I might bust out the Wilhelm scream myself.

Never heard that story. I saw them in concert in 1971 and of the hundreds I have been to it ranks among the top handful. Certainly in terms of faithfully reproducing the sound of their recordings. Burton Cummings glided through his considerable vocal range seemingly effortlessly. He had very little interaction with the audience beyond saying "thank you" to acknowledge applause. All business. From all reports he hasn't lost a step. A hometown Winnipeg boy who still visits the local haunts and indulges his passion for hockey.

The Guess Who was one of my favorite bands of that era. Loved Bachman's arrangements and Cummings voice. So many good songs. Watching the video, Cummings reminds me a little of Jack Black and Tenacious D. Thanks for posting inger!
