Listen to Exile on Main Street by the Stones, then put on Arthur by the Kinks. If it’s a longer flight, just repeat. God save the Kinks.✌️ Absolutely. Kinks fan here from the get-go "You Really Got Me" in October 1964. I do tend to lean toward their older stuff on account of I'm old -- favorites are things like "Til The End Of The Day" and "Dedicated Follower Of Fashion" -- but it's all good. The only one I never quite got was "Come Dancin'". But they are one of the essential bands. The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society!

Thanks for keeping us closer to the here and now Kaybli. I'm still giving this a shot. I kept waiting for someone to say “Tequila”! … Ha-ha- <peewee Herman voice>…

If we're still doing one-hit wonders, a few more rattling around in my brain. "Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas. Those cats were fast as lightning. You know it was a little bit frightening. For they fought with expert timing. "Doctor's Orders" by Carol Douglas. No relation to Carl. "Angel Of The Morning" by Merrilee Rush. Long before Juice Newton's version. "Magnet and Steel" by Walter Egan. "Shannon" by Henry Gross. Although he was earlier a member of Sha-Na-Na. "Shame Shame" by The Magic Lanterns. "Thunder And Lightning" by Chi Coltrane. "Don't Say You Don't Remember" by Beverly Bremers. "Tragedy" by ArcAngel. Another early MTV video. "I Can Help" by Billy Swan. Great roller skating song. "In The Summertime" by Mungo Jerry. Have a drink have a drive, go out and see what you can find. "Please Come To Boston" by Dave Loggins. I detest this song. "Beach Baby" by The First Class. I detest this one even more. "Precious And Few" by Climax. These guys evolved from the 60s group The Outsiders, which had several hits including "Time Won't Let Me" and "Respectable." And two more that I really did like, both made the top 40, and I hope somebody remembers them: "Double Barrell" by Dave and Ansill Collins. Jamaican duo, great song. "Go Back" by Crabby Appleton. Should have been number one, had to settle for 36. Some good ones on there, pipps! Beach Baby might not qualify, though. This may have been discussed somewhere in the past on this thread, but Beach Baby, Gimme Dat Ding by the Pipkins, My Baby Loves Lovin' by White Plains, United We Stand by Brotherhood of Man and Love Grows Where Rosemary Goes by Edison Lighthouse were all one hit wonders in their own right--except for one thing. They all had the same lead singer--a guy named Tony Burroughs. So, Tony Burroughs was a one hit wonder 5 times over. Yeah Ren, I was part of that discussion but First Class slipped my mind. Tony Burroughs was quite the chameleon. There was a US counterpart named Ron Dante who was essentially the Archies and The Cuff Links ("Tracy") and other bubble gum entries.

"Precious And Few" by Climax. These guys evolved from the 60s group The Outsiders, which had several hits including "Time Won't Let Me" and "Respectable." Speaking of covers, Smithereens did an excellent cover of "Time Won't Let Me". www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQjbXdQZTt0Pat DiNizio and the rest of the band were huge Beatles fans. They did many excellent Beatles covers, even released albums of all Beatles songs. Very good. Not a song I would have expected to be covered, but they had that spirit of 66.

But they are one of the essential bands. You have to give some love to a band that can work carousel music into a top 40 hit, including clever Ray Davies lyrics.

The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society! the kinks were a staple in my my mid-1960's bands. songs like "you really got me" and "all day and all of the night" were based on cool riffs and rocked hard and were precursors to the heavier led zep sound. "tired of waiting" and "well respected man" - more laid back were fun to play as well. though i never played it, later liked "this time tomorrow" which was featured along with a couple of other kinks songs in "darjeeling limited" - a fun quirky flick.

now sure if it was mentioned or big enough to be considered a "one-hit wonder", but the amazing rhythm ace's "third rate romance" was a cool tune w a funky groove. maybe they were more country but thought they were an underrated band.

Should have been number one, had to settle for 36. Wow, that's quite a list. I remember most of those songs. Speaking of Sha-Na-Na do you remember Johnny Contardo? In my opinion, he is a very and I mean a very underrated singer that doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Probably has already been mentioned, but if not... "In The Year 2525" - Zager & Evans for sure the classic one-hit wonder group. interestingly, denny zager went on to become a guitar maker. have one of his beautiful custom guitars.
and yeah "one toke" is another.
