It not unusual to be an octogenarian 🎶 I've seen Tom Jones a couple of times. He was great! The ladies really do throw their panties at him. I like this from about 10 years (or more) ago… youtu.be/3JWiPFT0v2c?si=_vCgdUxHelDXbgTd

In the study today doing some paperwork, the Mrs. and I are headed to Yosemite this Sunday for a couple of days. Listening to some Poco, a very underrated band IMHO. Early "super group" that deserves to be in the Rock and Roll HOF more than many of the acts that have made it.

Poco can trace their roots back to The Buffalo Springfield and Richie Furay, a founding father of both bands. The also twice had their bass player poached by the Eagles. Have a great trip!

Interestingly, original bassist Randy Meisner was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit, who also replaced him with The Eagles. I once met Meisner when playing a fast-pitch softball tourney in Scottsbluff, NE. Also very briefly met Richie Furay, a "born again" Christian Evangelical who formed and leads a church in Broomfield, CO. PS - Have fun at Yosemite. We went thru there a few years ago on a trip which also included Kings Canyon NP & Sequoia NP. Plans are to do it again next year.

I’m reminded of the day my late brother said he’d like to go there someday and I had to correct him. His pronunciation was purely phonetic, but with a silent “e”… Yose-mite. Yose-mite what? He never got there, but we did get a laugh over it…

Lloyd, the brother I spoke of actually liked them… I take it "L-I" was a thing in your family... Actually no. My other siblings were Wendell, Jr., Joyce, Wayne, Gary, Gail. Wayne had a middle name Leo, and I had a middle name Wade. I had a half sister born to my dad named Heidi. My Mother’s name was Malvina Eliza Theresa Pearl Laguenesse Ingerson. She said she wanted to give all of her children easy names to write and spell…

I can never understand why some folks go to the same place to vacation every year, unless they have family there. I guess I’m an explorer at heart, if not by budget…

We've usually moved along each day, spending only one night in each place, but we're now to the point of settling in each place for 2 nights if warranted and exploring more of the local area. It's definitely an age thing. Although, as I've said, we've already visited Yosemite, Sequoia & Kings Canyon, a trip up the east side of the Sierra Nevada on Hwy 395 has been on my list for quite some time. Much to see on that route. I don't like to back track the same way home, so it's natural to loop thru Yosemite from Lee Vining and down thru Sequoia & Kings Canyon.

All National Parks are great, but Yosemite is always on the short list. Such varied landscapes and views. Yosemite Falls is the tallest in North America and is alone worth the trip. El Capitan is sort of the symbol. If you aren't making it down to Sequoia National Park, you will still have a great stand of them in Yosemite. Tuolemne Meadows will be beautiful this time of year. Outstanding hikes throughout the park. You'll have a great time and be sure to fill us in when you return!

That trip along the east side of the Sierra Nevada is one of the great California road journeys. The non-glamorous but nevertheless beautiful part of the state. Funky towns like Lone Pine and Bishop and views of Mount Whitney. I always liked that Humphrey Bogart/George Raft movie "They Drive By Night" part of which takes place on that road. And George Tobias is in there, later to be the beleaguered Abner Kravitz on "Bewitched." I used to occasionally have to go to China Lakes for work, staying in Ridgecrest. That is one lonely desolate place. Los Angeles seemed a million miles away.

Stayed overnight in Ridgecrest after a visit to Death Valley..a teeming metropolis compared to the mining "town" of Trona, one of the strangest places I've ever been thru. As you said, Hwy 395 has much to see, including the Western Movie Museum in Lone Pine, Alabama Hills, Manzanar, June & Mono Lakes.
