As reportrd, when Spike Lee ask if his son like to attend Yankees game this weekend with him. His son replies I rather hang with my friends. That comment brings his thoughts of Cat Stevens' "Cats in the cradle" which I believe it was written by Harry Chapin A song about never having enough time that took on extra meaning when Chapin died way too soon in an automobile accident.

However the only cover version I ever heard was by Ugly Kid Joe (of "Everything About You" fame) in the early 90s. Cat Stevens did write and record a similarly-themed father /son relationship song called, appropriately enough, "Father And Son." Not saying Cat Stevens never performed it, perhaps he did, but it doesn't show up in his discography.

I'm familiar with that song as I only recalled Chapin 's version.

Yeah...I used to do quite a few Cat Stevens songs quite well, if I do say so. Right at my ability level. Still have the songbook...stumble thru a few...not too bad. BTW...I can still do the opening to "Roundabout", starting with the 12th fret harmonics, up to the point it gets real...

And he’d write it well… Chapin fan here!… The third one on the left Was always trouble Soon after it came in it Started to decay And I said Hey! Why decay? And it fell Out…out…out… But these front teeth Never gave me trouble They’d always let me Blow a bubble Tune in to our show for the other 327 verses…

Inger, that is Harry Chapin singing there. As the comments below immediately point out. I would love to know what album Cat Stevens did this on. I checked every track on every Cat Stevens album ever released, including the definitive four box set with 79 tracks, and I couldn't find it. Not trying to be a prick and would happily stand corrected, but I simply can't find any recording beyond this misattributed one on YouTube. Do you remember what album it was on? Maybe he did it in concert?

I think the obvious connection is with the name. I wonder if Harry Chapin ever recorded "I'm Just Wild About Harry"?
