It’s one of my most singable in the shower songs. Doesn’t require any more than a couple of octaves at the most. And that’s if you want push it. Beautiful and simple. “Mandolin Wind”. That ones tough to beat. To do it well the vocal requirements are a bit more stringent… It’s a story teller’s vocal. Emotions gotta be raw. Everyone from The Carpenters, Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell and Bobby Darrin covered Reason to Believe. Here’s the original from its author: Nothing beats Rod Stewart’s version, though. Thanks. I had never even heard of this artist, much less heard that version of the song… Darrin was certainly a cut above, but mention of him and song writers ignited my thoughts of those old musical/Variety shows. When I think of them, it always evokes memories of a songwriter that used to get booked on a bunch of those shows to sing. He was short in stature (maybe 5’2” in boots), had long blond, shimmery hair to about a foot below his shoulders that gave a sort of “Cousin Itt” appearance when he moved. He had an odd enunciation that I suppose was a speech impediment and a creaky croaky, annoying little sort of a munchkin voice. He could sing in tune, and in time with the music. I often wondered if he was like one of the “emergency guests”, sort of like on call in case a scheduled guest pulled out. I used to dread his three minutes so much…

Somehow I missed that Williams played the role of “Little Enos Burdette” in Smokey and the Bandit”. Now, that’s funny stuff. He’s 81 years old now, and I hit his height right on the nose at 5’2”…

Pete Townshend admits he "doesn't deserve to be alive".
The Who guitar legend - who has battled alcohol and substance abuse in the past - has admitted he's "not been a perfect man", especially in his youth, and he says it will be a miracle if he reaches 80.
Tequila has a few words of Wisdom for Pete = "Welcome to the Club..."

Townshend is 76, not bad for a guy who wanted to die before he got old.

Townshend is 76, not bad for a guy who wanted to die before he got old. I had myself figured for late fifties. 57 specifically. Of course, at that time I was in elementary school. My President had been shot young. 57 seemed pretty old. Thinking back, and just guessing, the male life expectancy was probably early to mid sixties back then…

I never figured you for a Matchbox Twenty fan inger. I thought you were into older stuff. Not that there's anything wrong with Matchbox Twenty. I have a couple of their songs in my playlist.

I like plenty of stuff from “20”. Rob Thomas has such a unique voice and vibrato. I still check in on hits from time to time, but the last 5-10 years I’ve been less able to sort through the muck. Kings of Leon Maroon 5 Blanking out… Have to confess to a bit of Ed Sheeran, not all. Mostly the groups that are still around be they’re catalog is starting to age a bit still get my attention.

These days I most often find new music I like on television shows. The Blacklist, for instance, has introduced me to some artists I would never have known.

Most radio stations we can receive around here are unlistenable. Religious stations. Todays pop. The one that works for me is the University of Pueblo. The bad disc-jockeying is made up for with a pleasant mix of 70’s to now rock, pop, adult contemporary, with the emphasis on the older stuff. Certain hours they’ll stress 70’s hard stuff, others 80’s pop. I think everything else is only rare interjection. I get a wry kick out of some of the banter between the kids. “How was your ride in this morning?”. “I seen <sic> some deers <sic> in a field.) Rest assured folks, English is broken, and it’s never coming back… These are our educated youth. What the hell is happening with the stupid ones? I did see a friend of mine back in MD photographed a sign offering used “Ratshit” straps for sale…

Almost lost me in the intro before the vocals started. I stayed to be polite. Once the vocals started it got better. Even a little catchy. Ruthie walked by. She wasn’t a fan. I can see how with repetition it could rope you in. The problem for me is that I likely won’t repeat it, so unless it winds up on some venue I listen to it’s probably off my radar. But thanks for sharing. I may driving down the road someday and go… hey! Turn it up… It’s Peaky Blinders!!…
