"Poor judgement. Poor coaching. Poor teaching... Somebody has to be accountable and the last thing I'll say is I have a whole damn stable full of guys that throw 98 mph."

Kevin Cash seems like a better than average manager in terms of tactics, and in-game strategy, but in this instance he is a jerk. His finger pointing should be right back at himself, because Chapman was only doing what had to be done if the Yankees are going to stand up for their hitters. I think it might be just bluster, if not, and this escalates, Cash might find himself on the sidelines after being so public with his talk.

I could be wrong but I don't believe Chapman's pitch was intentional. I don't think Chapman would hit a batter on purpose in this critical game to bring the tying run to the plate. It just doesn't make sense. He was wild all inning because he hasn't pitched much recently and I think the ball just got away from him.

I don't know if Chapman's pitch was intentional or not, I doubt it was. The Yankees don't need this crap, it's really a no win situation for them against the new media darling Rays.

Also lost in all this is the fact that Cash admitted they threw at Romine's head intentionally three years ago. [img class="smile" src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/gszgVuvxUtZEFrgJSkis.gif" alt=" "]
"I can assure you, other than three years ago, there hasn't been one pitch thrown with intent from any of our guys."

From what I saw, that was the third hitter in a row that Chapman threw up and in. Not that he was trying to hit them. If he had wanted to hit them he would have, not in the head but upper body area. He came scarily close on Brouseau and that certainly got Tampa's attention. I guess it is sixes, since the Rays think it was intentional. Remember Tanaka hit Weddle in the hip in the first inning, and that was absolutely deliberate in my view. I think the Yankees came into the game to do that, but what do I know?

I think the Tanaka pitch was probably intentional though given Tanaka's honorable character I'm not totally sure. And why give the Rays a base runner in a critical game? All I know is that today's game will be must see TV for sure. Go Yanks! Let's drop the lead to 2.5 games, 1 in the loss column, and get back in the AL East race!

When you have lost 7 of 8 to a first place team and are ahead by two runs in the ninth, why hit a batter and bring the tying run to the plate? That’s hardly the occasion to make a purpose pitch. I believe Chapman was wild, as we saw balls in the dirt and high and inside prior to that at bat.

Hell if he hit him on purpose he should be thrown out for showing lack of sense. You NEVER bring the tying run to the plate in the last inning. No way do I believe it was intentional. I think Cash was just trying to fire up is troops, although I don't know why they need extra motivation when they play us.

Chapman has been suspended three games. I imagine he will appeal.

If I recall, it was an off-speed pitch, so probably not. Purpose pitches are nearly exclusively fastballs. Also, with the dearth of runs scored lately by the Yankees despite solid pitching, why give the Rays a free baserunner and potential run? And, I cannot think of a single time Tanaka has thrown a purpose pitch in his career. Sabathia, absolutely.
