I don't think the decision is terrible if Garcia is available to start Game 4 with his usual workload. It was just used to get the lefties in the lineup for Happ. Happ just didn't come through. It's more on Happ than anyone. Might as well have thrown Holder for the first inning, then.

Let’s see it we can find a chink in Mr. Glasnow this inning. He shouldn’t last long. The problem is we’ll see the “A” bullpen tonight... Bit we can’t fear them...

Again, why pitch a starter one inning, then? That’s been a legitimate question for about two years now. To be clear, I don’t like the opener. I believe the Yankees of all teams should stick to traditional baseball and not have to resort to wizardry and trickery to field a full baseball team at all times. Yet, despite what I think, it’s happening all over baseball. I can accept it, but go do so I have to choke back vomit... Openers have always been relievers, not a bonafide starter. They could have thrown Holder for the first inning.

I also believe he saw it as a way for Garcia to lose his cherry with minimal risk...

Think of it as it was probably his day to throw if he was pitching Game 4... so they had him get his work done in game... in case , you know , it doesn't go to game 4, he would've throw against real players in game.. If Happ didn't shit the bed, it wouldn't have been a horrible decision...

One problem is that if the Yanks start Garcia in game 4, we don't know how a 20 year old is going to handle it. This is all new to him.
