4 years @ 80 million with an option for a 5th season. I've been saying this for weeks and I'm sticking to it. D.J. had the second highest WAR in the AL last season and is the most important hitter in the Yankee lineup, he's a perfect fit for that team. I don't want to imagine the Yankee lineup without him, it would be a whole lot of swinging and missing. Exactly the Yankees for YEARS have been missing that contact hitter they finally got one and they really need to get this done. Theres too much swinging and missing on the team otherwise.

To be quite honest, I think 5/$100M is too much. LaMahieu is a GOOD, not GREAT player. Don’t treat him like a man that just batted .364 for a whole season. It was for a 60 game season. His decline phase could start any season now. He’s been real coy. “I want to be a Yankee”. If it has to be 5/100, then let him walk. There are other fish in the sea... If its the difference between getting him and not getting him, I don't see what the big deal is in giving him the 5th year at 20 million more. Is that extra year at 20 million really going to break us five years down the road? I do like Chi's idea of making it an option though if possible. And inger, he is a GREAT player. 3rd in the AL MVP last year. 4th in the AL MVP voting in 2019. You're underestimating his performance by saying he's only a good but not great player.

If the Yankees pay DJ LeMahieu 20 million per year, that would put him in the top 40 annual salaries in MLB. He’s led the Yankees in WAR the last two years. With his ability to play all over the infield, the Yankees receive incredible versatility from DJLM when other players are hurt, need rest, or pinch hit. He’s the most reliable offensive player on the Yankees, a team filled with talented, yet inconsistent and streaky hitters. No situation has proven too big for him. Zero drama, and he doesn’t have a regular stool at the IL Bar and Grill. If the Yankees do not pay him, they’ll ultimately spend more trying to replace him. Why should he not make as much as Eric Hosmer, Andrew McCutcheon, Josh Donaldson, and Chris Davis? Pay the man.

Who cares about 2025 now? One year of 20 million at 2025 shouldn't make or break that team.

Who cares about 2025 now? One year of 20 million at 2025 shouldn't make or break that team. Absolutely agree. We can sign Aaron Hicks for 7 years but not the Yankees most versatile player for 5? The Yankees haven’t won a World Series since Derek Jeter led the team in WAR: 2009. LeMahieu has that same Derek Jeter-like, inside out swing that is not prone to extended slumps. Do Brian Roberts, Stephen Drew, Starlin Castro, and Neil Walker ring a bell? It’s not easy replacing an all-star infielder.

lol, that could be Stanton right now. At least Stanton didn’t have to buy a new Walker. He just adjusted the legs on the one Ellsbury left behind... Of course, sometimes he an Hicks have to fight over it...
