Looks like Cashman is trying to bring in another starting pitcher with a long injury history. A rotation with 2 high risk used to be good could still be cases, a guy coming off a domestic dispute that hasn't pitched in almost two years, a former almost 20 game winner coming off tjs and not ready till mid season. None of this is sounding too assuring to me.

None of this is sounding too assuring to me. The bullpen will be torched by the 4th of July. You guys both make terrific points. I was big on Taillon after 2018. So, with the Yankees imaginary financial constraints, they don’t appear to be in on Bauer. If we look at what Taillon IS as well as what he isn’t on an individual basis, I see a guy who, if he can still throw that 96 MPH heat and throw the rest of his pitches as hard as ever, should be the same pitcher he’s always been. He throws an unfortunately straight 96MPH fastball, yet gets good swing and miss with it. His slider is a hard one with little lateral movement but good, sharp downward drop at 91 MPH. His sinker is as good as Zack Britton’s at 96 MPH with sharp downward bite and about 55-56 ground ball rate, even higher when he uses the pitch as a put away with two strikes. His curve is thrown at about 81, and has a nice 12-6 late break. It’s his best strikeout offering. He over uses his 86 MPH changeup. It’s best offered out of the strike zone, but it’s his most problematic HR pitch. If he could add a bit of movement to his fastball, it would become more effective, but his results with it are good now based mostly on his command and timing when using it. I would have him scrap the change up in favor of just using the sinker more often. If he can tweak his repertoire just a bit, he still won’t be a big K pitcher, but his tendency for ground balls in Yankee Stadium could make him a star. We can land him a bit cheap, and I would go all in for him. Who knows? Maybe Trevor “Toys in the Attic” Bauer will be our surprise for the year. I think it was Curt Blefary who nicknamed a young Oriole pitcher Frank Bertaina “Toys in the Attic”. Bauer is more cerebral than Bertaina was, but the name still seems to work. I agree with you guys that the Yanks are taking some chances in regard to starting pitching, but there does appear to be some decent depth there to fill in gaps, along with some maturing youth and potential multiple-inning relief with some that can either be stretched out to start, or go 2-3 bullpen innings... maybe those guys, the # 6-7-8-9 starters can help keep the pen afloat, as long as the pen is successful this year...

Jameson Taillon is reportedly changing his pitching mechanics in attempt to avoid future injury: nypost.com/2021/01/24/yankees-talking-with-pirates-about-starter-jameson-taillon/Pitching successfully following rehabilitation after injury and surgery is dicey enough. Altering the pitching motion that got you to the big leagues adds more question marks. Yankees bargain basement shopping with the highest payroll in MLB.

That's a great write up on Taillon, inger. I think he's a good pitcher. Kluber is a good pitcher and Severino is a good pitcher. German is a decent pitcher. The problem: the four of them combined to pitch one inning in 2020 and three of them are coming off major medical issues. That's just a strange way for a team with the most resources in the sport to build their rotation.

Sounds like Taillon wants to be reunited with his buddy Cole.

Indeed, it was a solid and informative write up - Kudos to The Sombrero from Colorado - and I hope the asking price is right for such an obvious project as Jameson Irish Whiskey Taillon. Currently, we have a penciled-in, number-one starter in Cole Slaw and a solid number four or five in both Del Monty and Lil’ Deivi Cakes, given their performances in the abbreviated season last year. German Potato Salad is a question mark but would be a nice number five as presently punctuated. Who knows which Severino Pasta shows up in June? A penciled-in, number-two starter or another four or five shaking off the rehabilitation dust? Which leaves “I ate his liver with some Kluber Beans and a nice Chianti.” Have the Yankees bought a few ropes and hope they have a rodeo? When was the last Yankee rotation with this many question marks? Is someone going to mention Greg Pour Me a Glass of Caderet?

You can’t eat Whitey “with red pin striping” Ford... but I’d love to see him pitch once more...
