We’re 1-2 and we already need a foil. Hicks is cheap, features outstanding fielding, throwing, speed skills. Yeah. That career BA is hard to look at, but you have to allow for his OBP and it doesn’t sting so bad. And he hits some homers in bunches at times.
The point is that these strikeouts are not characteristic and they will pass. The secondary point is that his contract is not hard to swallow because it was adjusted as to reflect not only they skill set, but both the still-existent skill set, and the history of injury.

I think Hicks days as a centerfielder are dwindling. The only reasons he stands above Gardner are that Gardner is now 38, and Hicks superior throwing arm.
Unless Hicks surprises us all and busts loose into a full time talent, he’s going to have a hard time fitting into the Yankee plans as a starter in another year or two.
