I’ve never had them or even seen them in stores. I’ve seen ding dongs. They just sounded funny to me. Every now and then, Sarah used to get urges for that kind of junk food. When I get hungry for junk food it’s almost always chips and dip, then things like gummy bears or Mike and Ike’s. In the odd case of chocolate craving, then it’s cookies, ice cream, or peanut M&Ms. I can go all year without chocolate or sweets, but have zero will power if Doritos are within reach. The Ring Ding is a step above the Ding Dong. The Ding Dong can be a bit of a dry bite, whereas the Ring Ding is basically stuffed with lard. Ah, healthy, delightful lard which gives a bit of added moisture. I don’t eat many chips. I watch Ruthie gobble bag after bag. I’ll ask her to hand me a half dozen. At that point I’ve usually had enough, but sometimes I’ll take a reorder. It’s interesting, recent studies are finding animal fats healthier than seed oils and the generic “vegetable oil.” Lots of deleterious effects when those oils break down. Also, French fries were so much better tasting when they were deep fried in beef tallow. No contest. |

Rangers paying for 2021, 2022, and 2023 and even if they decline the 2023 option the rangers are paying that too. UFA in 2024. |

I guess they’ll keep Odor around until they see if Mike Ford is hitting. I sure hope he is. I didn’t get a whiff of anything good from Rougned... afield or at bat... The Yankees have Odor for free for the next three seasons. I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon. Rangers paying for 2021, 2022, and 2023 and even if they decline the 2023 option the rangers are paying that too. UFA in 2024. At the alternate site, Tyler Wade just angrily threw a ring ding across the locker room. |

I am missing oregantas now that I can’t find a vendor out here. We were spoiled because we had a deli on the PA line, really close to our house that made them. Almost anything sweet is a strong temptation. Vanilla ice cream with Log Cabin Original Maple Syrup poured over it. I try not to add too much syrup, but it makes it sooooo goooood. The closet I can get to orgasm by food. I feel like a bumblebee high on pollen when I eat that. Many of the Tasty Kake products were the best made of the snack cakes, but the chocolate covered donuts are sublime. Entenman’s makes a good runner up on the chocolate covered donut, though. Tasty Kake doesn’t win much shelf space in Colorado for some reason. Spaghetti is great when the sauce is seasoned to my liking... which can be a challenge. I like a very fine purée, so no big chunks of onion, garlic or tomato are allowed. I enjoy the combined flavors but not the texture of those ingredients. I also want to taste the basil and oregano enough to know they are there. This all bothers Ruthie because she prefers to by a jar of Ragu and dump it in a pan. Ugh. Just put some poop on a stick and stir that while you’re at it! I use Hunts Tomato Sauce. It comes in a can and I use the one that is preseasoned with basil, garlic and herbs. I use McCormicks Italian Seasoning, about 1/4 of their little spice jar, then add more garlic salt to taste (about a slightly heaped teaspoon). I want this seasoned to a point where the tomato flavor is no longer the “star” of the show, but is still a good supporting co-star. The tomato paste is also Hunts with the same seasonings included. The sauce should have a garlicky taste that explodes on your tongue the moment it touched it, and as you take the bite fully into your mouth, the other flavors slowly engage your taste buds... |

Ronald Acuna isn’t in the line up for the Braves. So, we have that going for us. I'll take any edge the Yankees can get. Although Acuna is an exceptional talent and I love watching guys at that level play. Ozzie Albies has also missed the last few games, don't know if he's in tonight. The Braves have three starting pitchers on the IL -- Mike Soroka, Max Fried and Drew Smyly --as well as several guys in the pen. So we're catching them at a good time. |

It’s definitely poor people’s food that we ate when I was young. So it brings back memories... that feeling you had when you were largely devoid of responsibility. All you had to do was live. I make that sandwich and when I sit at the table, I’m 4 or 5 years old again, trying to keep the beans from falling out from between the slices of bread. Feeling the bean juice get away and start to run down my hand. Not worrying about if I’m getting proper nutrition, nor the coming gastric side effects. The flies are sticking to the flypaper on the kitchen window. The dusty light bulb without a cover is turned on above the sink, the only place in the house with running water.. The front yard is green and full of bumblebees. There’s a constant drone of traffic off the busy 4 lane Route 40 that flies past our house everyday. I don’t notice or even know how shabby the place is. Half of the front is hidden behind an overgrown rose bush any way. Behind that rose bush, where it’s damp and dark, the termites have been chewing for years. Their starting to break through into the inside. But I don’t care. Isn’t that the way life is supposed to be? ... I don’t think we have any Campbells baked beans, and I really don’t feel like running to the store right now. Darn. I could use one of those sandwiches right now. Maybe two... |
