And Dennis Weaver as Chester before Festus came along. Before "McCloud" or "Gentle Ben" or the long-forgotten "Kentucky Jones."

Who would have thought that when Arness reduced his roll in the later years was “out of town” until the final scene that Ken Curtis could have held the audience for so long? I heard Dennis say once that he wished he hadn’t given Chester the limp in his audition because it made the role much more difficult to play, and that he sometimes forgot which leg to limp on...I liked Chester more than any of the other “helpers” Matt ever had. Better than Quint or Festus or Newly, or even Thad...

You can’t fix anything about that last one. A rocket, a splendid play. Sometimes when you do everything right it just turns out wrong... There's a song in there somewhere.... or This song:

What happened to my sweep? Hey, the great Meat Loaf once said "Two Out Three Ain't Bad".

This forum has a music thread, yet it often must spill over to other threads. Sometimes it’s just impossible to contain. Like this special request in from Jayson in Florida...
Jayson boy, is that you? I thought your post-hangin' days were through, Sunk-in eyes and full of sighs, Tell no lies, you get wise, I tell you now we're gonna pull you through, There's only one thing left that we can do
We gotta get you a woman, It's like nothin' else to make you feel sure you're alive We gotta get you a woman, We better get walkin', we're wastin' time talkin' now

I enjoyed the banter between Festus and Quint, but perhaps my favorite character was Galen “Doc” Adams (Milburn Stone).

He is amazingly nimble mounting horses and doing his own stunts in the bar fights, etc.. or was. Was amazingly nimble. Not so much now... kinda stiff...

He nearly died doing so in the movie Deliverance.

A few years ago, I was watching an old Sherlock Holmes movie with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. Lo and behold, a young Milburn Stone played an American serviceman who was the love interest of a young girl seeking the famous consulting detective’s services.

I really could have done without seeing the squeal like a pig scene. And the behind the scenes featurette on the DVD of the squeal like a pig scene.

It didn’t hurt his career, but I bet he got tired of the jokes.

It didn’t hurt his career, but I bet he got tired of the jokes. The scene was not at all pleasant, but somehow without it the angst would have been dropped to a slightly lower level and the rest of the movie doesn’t work. Getting the flavor of why the guys were fighting back to the death is the only justification that the viewer can understand... There was a movie with incredible casting and makeup that was done to perfection...
