Ned Beatty in one of the most famous movie scenes in the history of film. It didn’t hurt his career, but I bet he got tired of the jokes. The scene was not at all pleasant, but somehow without it the angst would have been dropped to a slightly lower level and the rest of the movie doesn’t work. Getting the flavor of why the guys were fighting back to the death is the only justification that the viewer can understand... There was a movie with incredible casting and makeup that was done to perfection... Do you remember the movie Southern Comfort? Another one of those cultural shift themes.

And Dennis Weaver as Chester before Festus came along. Before "McCloud" or "Gentle Ben" or the long-forgotten "Kentucky Jones." Before he was Festus Hagen, he was lead singer for the western band Sons of the Pioneers, which began in 1933 and is still going strong today. Started by Roy Rogers, or perhaps his joining might have just dithered their success. Ken Curtis was a talented and professionally trained baritone with a perfect voice for the venue. With Ruthie gone this week I’ve dared to fill my chest with air and sing in that baritone I featured in high school, at full voice. I’ve been surprised that for the most part I still have it. It’s very loud, the cat goes flying out of the room. Kind of hilarious. I’m a bit saddened because I truly was born with a talent that never got used to its fullest extent...

I don’t believe I saw that one. Nor kaybli’s nightmarish Clockwork Orange. I saw parts of it, but never in full...

You should go on HeAmyHa’s Got Talent or one of those other shows. I have a voice for mimicry, but not a true singing voice of my own. True singers are amazing to me. When I was a wee lad, I wanted to sing like BJ Thomas:

You should go on HeAmyHa’s Got Talent or one of those other shows. I should be able to do a decent cheesy version of that. My biggest problem is that I don’t read music, so like knowing when to come in is a challenge. I might need a flagger. Or a teleprompter, which is basically karaoke..,,

James Arness said in interviews that he thought Burt Reynolds’ character Quint brought something special to the show. I enjoyed the banter between Festus and Quint, but perhaps my favorite character was Galen “Doc” Adams (Milburn Stone). Doc, by the way. Milburn that is, built the theatre at the Rising Sun Community College back in my old county. Don’t know why he chose that to donate... I miss-named that. Cecil County Community College. I feared there migh be some alumni amongst us. No? Crap!!!
