Uh-oh, I just learned that the color commentator I was mocking is none other than Big Ben MacDonald. As Rizz would know, an LSU guy. I should do more research before I start firing away. Boy he looked like a beast when he first came up. He's growing on me Rizz, honest he is. He also played basketball at LSU (6’7”), but he was no Bob Pettitt. Or, Andy Pettitte. Bob Petit is one of the all-time great forgotten NBA players. I saw him play many times. He was great under the boards and an agile scoring machine. A bit like Kevin McHale in a later day. From the old St. Louis Hawks. He and Elgin Baylor were the two best power forwards of their time.

See if he’ll do his James Cagney or Edgar G. Robinson impression! Back in the day, if you did those guys plus maybe Kirk Douglas and John Wayne, maybe Jimmy Stewart, it would get you on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Frank Gorshin made a living doing that before he became The Riddler. Then came Rich Little and Fred Travelena.

Not only am I stuck with the Orioles broadcast, but it's their B-team. The analyst sounds like Gomer Pyle's cousin Goober, as played by George Lindsay. I think he’s got two brothers, Darrell and Daryl...

Since they got rid of Gary Thorne, do they even have an "A" team? Good question. Although Inger would disagree, I think Palmer is okay. But Thorne was good. Any idea where he is now? After hearing this Goober, I think I’d take Palmer tonight...

People don’t realize that Petit was 6’9” without shoes and could run. He worked hard on his offense year after year once he made it to the NBA, developing an outside shot and different moves in the post. He is definitely forgotten by today’s basketball pundits who refer to him as a punchline, knowing nothing about him. His contemporaries knew him though, including Wilt Chamberlain and Jerry West. Petit was the first NBA player to score over 20,000 points.
