Yankees' Greg Bird expected to get at-bats in extended spring gameGreg Bird is slated to get at-bats on Monday in an extended spring game, manager Aaron Boone said. Bird underwent right ankle surgery on March 27 and he is in week five of a six-to-eight week recovery timetable. Bird posted on Instagram Thursday for the first time since February a photo of him in a Yankee uniform and a sunglasses emoji. "Greg's doing well. I think he's scheduled to maybe get his first at-bats on Monday in an extended spring game possibly," Aaron Boone said. "So he's on track and moving in the right direction and we're really pleased with his rehab and how things are going and progressing and moving forward so I think that's the next step. I believe it's Monday and then we'll go from there." www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/greg-bird-expected-at-bats-extended-spring-game-article-1.3969679

There's only two players in that lineup that should play every day... The "Stewie" Experiment... Thank God we found Gary Sanchez. Having a hitting catcher is such a luxury. We had it for years with Posada and now have it again with Sanchez.

Still so early but could Gary Sanchez be one of the, if not the, greatest offensive catcher of all time? I guess it may be tough to match Piazza's career numbers.

Though, it did take Piazza 269 more plate appearances to hit his 61st career home run (the number Sanchez has now). Could be a bigger power hitter but not as complete of an all around threat as Piazza was at the plate.

Piazza hit .308/.377/.545 with a .922 OPS and 142 OPS+ for a catcher! That's insane! Check out the all time catcher OPS rankings:

Check out the all time catcher OPS rankings: Piazza will be hard to catch in overall offensive prowess, though Gary is just entering his prime at 25 years old. I do think Gary can be a bigger power hitter but hell never be a career .300 hitter though. Could certainly be a top 5 offensive catcher though.

Let's just hope he doesn't get seriously injured before he makes a dent in the all time numbers. You never know with catchers. Donning the tools of ignorance is a tough trade indeed.

Nice list, because so many over-rate Bench's offensive tool set...Of course, like many catcher, the nicks, cuts, and bruises didn't help him...

During his peak, no other catcher was even close statistically. If his era is the point of reference, how can he be considered overrated? I dont think anyone tries to argue that hes Clemente or Reggie Jackson...but at his position he has to be considered first in class by far (in his era).
