If it comes down to it -- and I'm still thinking it won't-- there are definitely players to realistically sell. Chapman Part Two, Green, Britton would all find takers and get you something useful in return. Sanchez and Frazier or even Voit for that matter if you are really running up the white flag.
This team is underachieving as much as the 2013 troop over-achieved. Looking back at that dreadful lineup, Girardi probably should have gotten manager of the century for having a winning record.
I honestly never thought this team could play this poorly for this long. The idea that they were widely considered to be on the short list of likely World Series participants before the season looks laughable now.
If this really is what they are, I don't see why there shouldn't be a major organizational shakeup. There is still a chance of pulling this mess together, but it's a really slim chance. And they are flat-out painful to watch. Really the worst in 30 years.

I understand the angst of this season’s near team-wide underperformance, but let’s not slip too far off the deep end. The talent in the organization is greater than one prospect who has not played a minor league game, which is another story....why the hell not? This team has had three runs to this point: 5-10, 23-9, 5-13. The old adage of you are never as bad as you are during a cold streak or as good as you are in a hot streak is a truism in baseball. This is a talented, yet flawed team. No one really knew Garrett Whitlock until the unprotected rule-five Yankee draft casualty emerged as the lynch pen in the Red Sox relief corps. Agree completely. I think winning the division will be tough but grabbing a wild card spot is still a good possibility. Get hot at the right time and we can still do damage in the playoffs.

No one is coming to the rescue. I don't believe Cash will make any big trades unless they're out it. This is the team we have.

To be fair the Yankees were ahead of the Rays before this cold streak lol. So..the Rays are not going on be playing 19-5 paced baseball the rest of the way they have to fall back at some point. Regardless of that though like I said earlier it's not like the Red Sox at 14-10 or the Blue Jays at 10-13 have lit the world on fire in the same stretch the Yankees really should have been solidly ahead of both those teams by now. The Yankees also did not have the easiest schedule in this first third of the season they had 35 division games which is 10-15 more than every team in their division has had and are about to have 3 more so that's 38 out of 68 games in the division. I'm also under the impression long as you get in the playoffs you can win the World Series we have seen it a lot and the Yankees have the pitching to win series for once. Yes the team isn't performing but the management is a real problem. They need to stop with this mega rest days when they have games they need to win. Also all those missed series swaps now are big.

Good Grief! We Yankee fans (me too) are reduced to hoping each year for a playoff berth and then "doing damage". We are flotsam on a sea of ineptitude. This team is not going to do damage in the playoffs. This team will exit early and go have fun doing something other than baseball.
Still. I will hope they do play well, and win the whole damn thing. Sigh*

Sigh* I dunno how you can say that when you have teams like the 2006 Cardinals and the 2019 Nats that looked TERRIBLE for long stretches of the season, but was able to pull it off. Cole is a legit #1 starter, German other than yesterday has looked solid, and Montgomery has been serviceable enough. Taillion has a good game here or there, but needs more consistency. Obviously the biggest ? is Kluber. If he comes back and is pitching like he was before that helps a lot. The bullpen overall has been solid. A lot of these games they are losing like 4-2 5-3 whatever. Thats why their +/- keeps hovering around 10 or less. If they were getting blown out constantly I would be more in line to agree with you, but all they have to do is turn these close looses into wins and they can be successful. This isn't one of those years where there is no pitching at all. They don't have an inning they've allowed more than 4 runs in all year and even the 4 run innings are fairly scarce over 65 games. They've only allowed more than 5 runs in 19 games out of 65. They also have over a 700 winning percentage if they have the lead by the third inning, but average under a .150 winning percentage when they don't. You know what that tells me? That this just shuts down when it gets behind early and very rarely overcomes these small depicts. Thats something that be changed. Getting blown out daily is a lot harder to change, but is not what is happening. Anyway they don't have anymore than 6 wins when they were behind in any inning the entire year. This team needs to score more early and let this pitching/bullpen shut teams down.

They were also a runs away last year from stealing that series vs the Rays because of having Gerit Cole. So to say the Yankees would have no chance to do damage in a playoff series is ridicolous.

I have a pretty good feeling that all teams are going to see a spike in offense with the league cracking down on stick ‘um for the pitchers. So we’re going to see that same increase. We’re also going to see more runs allowed by the pitching staff. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out for… or against… is. Next up… the Blue Jays… lots of offense already…

Sigh* Hey look, Billy, I'm just trying to put on optimistic spin on things to offer some hope for all us diehards. I agree it is frustrating right now. If I were a betting man I wouldn't bet on the Yankees to win the WS. But as a fan you just got to hope for the best and for a turn-around.

I would love to see that Nats fan board at this time two years ago. I also forgot the 2015 Blue jays didn't take off till late in season and won division against a Yankee team that was way ahead of them.

Well, I have enough Yankee die-hardness left to hope that all of you better fans are right.
Man, how I hope you are right. This is a good board, one I found by accident, or I should say through a search engine. I'll check back in later. Ciao.

I can understand beating up the team. They certainly deserve it. Just trying to remain positive as much as I can under the circumstances.
We're glad to have you here as a poster, Billy! I think everyone will agree to that!
