Pitching with the bases loaded just freaked him out. Boone comes to the mound to ask who Chapman prefers. Chapman obviously said he doesn’t care, so they decide to pitch to Santana. Then, at the last second after returning to the dugout, changes the decision to walk him. Why even go to the mound? Why let him cool down at all? |

I'd walk Santana here. And they do. Not me. I’d rather pitch to him. Too many odd things happen with the bases loaded, and no room for a walk, which Chapman can get wild. I would have trusted Chapman not to walk the newbie. Just throw strikes. If your All Star closer can't do that, its on him. Chapman just didn't execute. |

I take my chances with Santana. Pitch him tough. If you walk him, you have the weak hitter next, but Boone didn't even try to let Santana be over-anxious and get himself out. That might have happened, Boone didn't give it a chance.

No way. Your all star closer doesn’t always pitch like an all star for 162 game season. You have to pay attention to your players. That’s called coaching. The opposite is wishful thinking, or Noetsi’s stratomatic managing where you’re dealing with cards, not human beings. |
