Yanks didn’t want Frazier for the same reason they won’t play Park. No need at the position. The real problem is they don’t know what they need right now. Is DJ the long term 2B of 1B? Is Torres a SS or going back to 2nd? Can the DH ever hit consistently again? The Catcher? Who’s the CF? Do we all have COVID? Or just some of us? Who can get outs late in the ball game?… 2018 and 19 were really promising seasons, both collectively and individually for much of this roster/organization that are still here. Man have the times changed in quick order, lots of questions moving forward, most of all who will be the GM and who will manage. Not an envious position to be in right now, especially for a franchise who loves to take the easy route.

We looked like the team that was coming on, and with expectations that Boston would be out of the equation for a few years. Tampa and Toronto were supposed to be the challengers we’d have to hold off. The Judge / Stanton twin towers have been wavering ever since, and the other muscle, Sanchez, Voit… it’s been a mess. Pitching is still on and off. One thing this recent bout with Covid has made abundantly clear is that we suffer for depth. Another is that we need more speed and less lumbering power hitters, more contact and less swing and miss.
I’m not sure exactly how we arrived at this point. Voit, Odor, Stanton, Urshela all seem to have been deviations from our long term plans, but their availability was tempting and cheap (well, with Stanton not so cheap)… It would seem injuries and non-performing players have tempted us to go for the quick fix… There’s been little thought given to platoon handedness or a fit into a line up…

Please don't get Joey Gallo. We got a team full of guys like him. Plus, he's something like 2 for his last 27.

Here are some things that could happen over the last 60 games. They may or may not actually happen, but history has told us that they could.
Voit could crank out 20 more homers. DJ could hit .330. Or more. Torres could rip 15 more homers and hit near .300. Urshela could ditto Torres. Judge could add 20 more homers, as could Sanchez and Stanton.
That still leaves LF and CF. Maybe Allen takes over in left field and provides us with some nice D, OBP skills and stolen bases. That’s a bit of a reach. He’s a career .240 type so far. Maybe Florial gets to stay in CF and provides some speed and power with premium defense.
The starting pitching may get a boost from Severino and Kluber. Maybe Severino just goes to the bullpen for the rest of this season to help settle that area.
With what we know, if the team does nothing it may be logical to e pect better than what we’ve gotten so far from many of our players. Yet, baseball seldom presents as perfect. It’s unlikely that all of the things I wrote above are going to happen.
I admit to being a bit of a prospect hugger, but I also realize that if you want quality, you have to give quality. Any trade for an experienced veteran in his prime should cost us a painful to lose prospect. If not, it’s likely the player won’t help us enough. If we trade, I hope it’s with a bit of agony and angst attached…

I agree inger no matter which way you look at it the glaring holes are LF and CF I’ve become confused as to the level of problem we have at SS and at C. First base is horrendous statistically, bit Voit’s absence has been to blame. DH is decent statistically, but when Stanton goes into a stupor it’s disturbingly bad. I think we could get Walter Johnson and Cy Young and Boone would pull them in the fifth inning. I like Boone. Everybody does. He’s calm and collected. He’s a truly nice guy. But I don’t like his managing style. It’s like a carbon copy of Girardi, only he has his charts and graphs better memorized so we don’t see him going to them. I guess it’s been since the early Torre years since I liked or manager. I think Zi’ve disliked more of them than I’ve liked over the years, so what I like doesn’t seem to matter. We need a manager with the balls to stand up to the front office boys and do his job without concern of being let go.

I'd just as soon keep Florial or Allen in the OF. What's the fascination with guys that hit .220? We have plenty of those.

He slugs .512 vs RHP as a LHB, so that is sorely needed here.
