No, Park was one of the COVID replacements, so he could be added and removed from the 40 man roster without going through waivers, Brantly and Allen are in the same boat, but, they might want to keep Allen as a reserve OF, even when Judge comes back. Hoy Park will likely get a solid opportunity to get to the big leagues with Pittsburgh, who traded their all star second baseman Adam Frazier to the San Diego Padres. A good home for him, but we didn’t get a lot back for him in my opinion. I may be wrong. Maybe it’s smart to get a ROOGY with the three batter minimum looming every time he enters a game. Maybe his 72% <✔️❗️> ground ball rate will matriculate into an uber-closer in the near future…

Byron Buxton. He’s refused the Twins offer. What a temptation. Yet, he could be Aaron Hicks 2.0. His .369 average with 11 doubles and 10 HR are sexy for 103 at bats this year. He has speed to burn. He has a bad injury history. The perennial prospect has only a .247 career average, big mad skills. Would you? Could you? What’s he worth in exchange? (I feel a bit like Cashman right now)…

Probably the best thing, career wise, to happen to Park and Castillo. The opportunities will be stronger in Pittsburgh.

Hoy still projects as a strong utility player, not a starter. I don’t think it’s clear that the Yankees thought lowly of him. He was simply sitting behind DJ and Odor at 2B and Gleyber and Urshela at SS. We even had Wade as an experienced though flawed back up. There was no realistic spot to play him. In retrospect, he should not have been promoted. That promotion should have gone to an outfielder (Florial). The fact that he didn’t get a big haul back, even packaged with a higher ranked prospect, demonstrates that opposing teams weren’t chomping at the bit to get him. I like the kid, but I don’t see him starting for a contender at any time…

“Clubs are permitted to carry up to five additional Taxi Squad players on all road trips with the Major League team. If the club elects to carry five additional players, at least one must be a player whose designated position prior to the season is catcher. Players on the Taxi Squad are permitted to work out with the Major League club but are not permitted to be in uniform and in the dugout during games. Upon the conclusion of each road trip, players on the Taxi Squad will return to their club's Alternate Training Site.”
“Any clubs that experience a COVID-19 outbreak among their players may add to their Major League Active List temporarily, without the need for those players to be placed on waivers, outrighted, or optioned in order to be removed from the 40-man roster when players return from the COVID-19 Related Injured List.”
Wasn’t Hoy Park added to the Taxi Squad? I did not see it reported that Park went through waivers, except a vague mention in that MLB trade rumor piece.

I thought I heard taxi squad. It was the first time I had heard that term related to baseball, so it wasn’t clear what that meant. I wonder if he was even eligible to play in all of the games while he was “up” with the team? Or should that have been “upping”. Welcome to the big leagues, kid. Sort of… for just a little bit. You are the 31st man on our 26-man roster. Be ready in case someone dies…

Rockies shortstop Trevor Story is one of the biggest names on the trade market, but mostly by reputation. Story, 28, is in the middle of his worst offensive season, and some baseball people are alarmed by his poor throwing. “His throws look off and have all year,” one rival executive said. Statcast numbers support the executive’s observation. The average velocity on the top 10 percent of Story’s throws is 78.1 mph, down from 80.4 last season and an average of 85.4 the four previous years. More traditional numbers also point to a decline: Story has made six throwing errors, one short of his career-high. The obvious question is whether Story is injured. He was on the injured list from May 29 to June 10 with right elbow inflammation, and also missed time with elbow trouble in September 2018. But Rockies GM Bill Schmidt, in a text message on Monday, said, “He’s healthy as far as I’m aware.” Story, though, also is not hitting at his accustomed level. For the season, he’s batting .240 with a .733 OPS, well below his previous career marks of .277 and .877. In July, he’s batting .171 with a .568 OPS, following his best offensive month of the season with his worst. theathletic.com/2732480/2021/07/27/rosenthal-trevor-story-max-scherzer-mlb-trade-deadline/

I’ve warmed up a bit to Torre as his bat has picked up a bit and he’s pulled off some spectacular plays from the hole between his position and third base, which had proven to be a particular problem for him earlier in the year. I’ve pushed myself to remember that he’s still young and could make a comeback. I think I’d still like to upgrade the position, though. Just not with Trevor Story. It does seem he could wind up going out as fast as he came in. The “story” that was so beautiful could quickly turn ugly… Some players get old quicker than others…

I hope we prioritize an outfielder over Story. I hope so, too. Maybe even 2 outfielders, but realistically it would be one. One with left-handed pop… Greg Allen can replace Gardner as he (Gardner) at most shrivels into a #5 guy. In that role we can still applaud his presence as he plays some good late inning decrease and or pinch runs. We can continue to evaluate the SS issue and make appropriate moves over the winter. We can no longer tolerate .190 with no power in CF going forward. We can’t live with LaMarre in left, either. Got to move forward with something positive. Frazier? Well, he’s either in the loony bin or with a neurologist right now, which can be a fine line. I wouldn’t count on seeing him. He may be cutting out paper dolls and bouncing off softer walls than he’s used to…

Tell me why Yankees shouldn't go get Kris Bryant? Yes he's paid $19.5 million this year so Hal will say no at the remaining money for August/September, but the prospect cost shouldn't be too high since he's a rental. He's exactly what this team needs, he's also a star who can play 4-5 positions. Oh and it wouldn't hurt to try and woo him for a few months and try to sign him this winter. We are so gonna regret trying to penny-pinch in the midst of Gerrit Cole's prime aren't we?
