You might expect they would have banished him to the Rookie Leagues until he can hoist a baseball the entire distance of 60’ 6”…

7 wild pitches in 10.1 career innings. Chapman got rested. What a blessing…
Maybe we should send Boone to AAA…Maybe Miami’s AAA…

Now the stupid Manfred Man on second extra innings artificial device. Manfred Man. That's a new one to me. Funny stuff for a not-funny game. Just to make it more entertaining, the Manfred Man should have to sing "Do-Wah-Diddy" until he either scores or is put out. Snapping his fingers and shuffling his feet.

They are 6th in runs in the AL and 13th in runs in the MLB in the last 30 days so I really can't blame the offense for the faults lately the bullpen has basically fell apart. They also have went all the way up to 8th in the MLB in HR over the whole season and are only 6 behind 5th place. 5th in the AL and only 3 behind 3rd place. Bullpen was absolutely brilliant early in the season and it had to be because the supposed juggernaut offense was and has been putrid, now we are seeing a burn out from many of our top relievers.

There was plenty of blame to go around for that choke job last night. Is it written is stone that Green has to finish when Chapman is not available? What would have been wrong with Montgomery for 7 and Cessa for 2? There is no way any major league team that is worth a darn should have Kriske as apparently the only option to finish that game. The only way that would have worked was if the Yankee's had scored a bunch of runs in the top of the 10th. I doubt I was the only one that had a real bad feeling when he took the mound. We had a number of chances to make difficult plays in the field(Wade, Torres, etc.) but I don't believe we made more than a couple. I like that we are running more and putting more pressure on the defense but last night we struck out 14 times in 30 plate appearances. Hard to steal first. I would guess we have seen the last of Brantley. Maybe I am wrong but I can't remember but two catchers worthy of starting that have come up through our system in the last 20 years(Posada and Sanchez). I stand to be corrected if I am wrong.

Your point on catcher development sent me rummaging through baseballref, Bearman. Depending on how you assess these guys, I came up with three catchers between Posada and Sanchez who were drafted by the Yankees and had extended big league careers -- Austin Romine, who has been a career backup; Francisco Cervelli, who it is fair to say had a decent major league career; and Dioner Navarro, who I was surprised to discover lasted 13 years in the majors, although a principal starter in only a few of them. Before Posada, who was signed in 1989 (but did not become the unquestioned starting catcher until 1998, when he was 27 years old), the next one would be Jim Leyritz, signed in 1985, who caught in almost exactly half of his 600-something games. If you don't buy into King Leyritz, you have to go back to Mike Heath, signed in 1973, who had a 14-year career, although not much of it with the Yankees. And then you are back to Thurman Munson. It was fun lookng through these guys. Juan Espino. Mike Figga! Not originally signed by the Yankees of course, but I would not have thought that Butch Wynegar spent five seasons with them. Plenty of decent to very good catchers in the post-Munson era acquired from other teams -- Wynegar, Rick Cerone, Matt Nokes, the hugely under-rated Mike Stanley, Joe Girardi, Brian McCann, etc.

Good catch Inger! I did forget him. Probably some others too.

Cervelli was serviceable for a while, Romine as well. Seems like we have some decent ones coming, Breaux is more offensive type, Seigler more defensive, and Antonio Gomez who may be the best of em all. Still all a ways away, which contintues to make the Torrens loss in Rule 5 few years ago sting quite a bit.
