For perhaps the first time this season, Boone sends in the lineup before the competition:
1. Gleyber Torres (R) SS 2. Joey Gallo (L) RF 3. Aaron Judge (R) CF 4. Anthony Rizzo (L) 1B 5. Giancarlo Stanton (R) LF 6. Rougned Odor (L) 2B 7. Gary Sanchez (R) C 8. Tyler Wade (L) 3B 9. Domingo German (R) P
LeMahieu and Urshela still on the mend. Rogers is a lefty, so it would have been advantageous to have both DJ and Gio playing today.

He's hitting sub 2005 Womack numbers at .197/.260/.239. Got to love that sparkling .499 OPS!

Interesting that Anthony Rizzo is already playing in his second game today, and Kris Bryant won’t be playing for the Giants until tomorrow. Remember when Frazier took the entire 72 hour window to report back to AAA? I hate to draw unnecessary and completely uninformed comparisons, but it nonetheless popped into my head.
Also in my head without my consent is the thought that putting Voit back on this roster is going to severely limit our versatility on the bench or the depth in the bullpen. Pipps mentioned the bench yesterday in the game thread. I bet the Yankees are disappointed they couldn’t move Voit.
Losing Wade or Florial or Allen or even Odor off the bench for Voit is a shame. Wade can play anywhere (I had no idea he was also the emergency catcher until Kay mentioned it on a broadcast), has speed, and is left handed; Florial has left handed pop, can steal a base, and plays all three outfield positions; Allen can also steal a base, plays all outfield positions, and is a switch hitter; Odor has left handed power, has proven a solid pinch hitter, and is by far our best bunter. Voit offers no defense, no speed, no bat handling, just right handed power and the ability to walk, which is not unique to the starting lineup.

Be nice! Wade is there as a defensive placeholder, as he can play every position on the field except pitcher. Also, Wade has had only 35 at bats the last two months, usually the one and done variety in the late innings. Womack played regularly and was supposed to be a starter. He had over 350 plate appearances in his one season with the Yankees.

What if we get Voit back and actually let him DH and plop Stanton on the bench? … at least Stanton is an outfielder that supposedly could play both corners. I don’t know. Roster constructions seems to be one of the worst skill sets Cashman has. Here, I got you some players. You figure out how to place them…

I just can't miss a chance to make a Womack comparison though!

I've seen wade for enough years he never gets it all together. For someone with his speed he never uses it properly. I would take Voit over Wade for sure. Pretty sure Florial already got sent down and they need to send someone else down for Heaney. I would keep Allen here over wade. Odor is going no where.

I don't know how its going to work with Voit if they stay with a nine man bullpen leaving only 3 bench spots. Might have to go to an eight man bullpen.

So, you’d have Voit playing third or second today? Or, shortstop if Torres gets hurt? Voit as a pinch runner? Voit as centerfielder? Voit offers nothing to this team as it is currently constructed. Do not dismiss all the things Wade can do. Not many MLB players can float from third base to centerfield to shortstop and play them all well, losing nothing defensively.

How many gaffes have we seen wade throughout the years? If it's not getting caught stealing or not stealing it's some error in the field. I've had enough of the guy. He's a career 191 hitter and has a negative war. There's better players out there.

Bye, Sal! Say high to Raymond Romano for us!… You were here longer than I cared to see you. Now go lead the NL in saves, or something…
