Be nice! Wade is there as a defensive placeholder, as he can play every position on the field except pitcher. Also, Wade has had only 35 at bats the last two months, usually the one and done variety in the late innings. Womack played regularly and was supposed to be a starter. He had over 350 plate appearances in his one season with the Yankees. Oh yea I'm well aware Womack was a regular and Wade is a part time player. I just can't miss a chance to make a Womack comparison though! I mean wades career numbers are pretty bad

Bye, Sal! Say high to Raymond Romano for us!… You were here longer than I cared to see you. Now go lead the NL in saves, or something… Yet they keep Nick Nelson

So, you’d have Voit playing third or second today? Or, shortstop if Torres gets hurt? Voit as a pinch runner? Voit as centerfielder? Voit offers nothing to this team as it is currently constructed. Do not dismiss all the things Wade can do. Not many MLB players can float from third base to centerfield to shortstop and play them all well, losing nothing defensively. How many gaffes have we seen wade throughout the years? If it's not getting caught stealing or not stealing it's some error in the field. I've had enough of the guy. He's a career 191 hitter and has a negative war. There's better players out there. Yes. Better players. But better players may not fulfill a role on a team. Better players are going to be starting players. Wade does seem to have some unfulfilled potential, but he’s like a Swiss Army Knife. It doesn’t have the BEST spoon, but it will do in a pinch. Yhe screwdriver is ungainly, but it does fit in the slot when you need one in an emergency. I won’t cover the fork, little hammer, etc.. I think you’ve got it now…

Wade was thrown out yesterday on a perfect - and I mean perfect - throw. Other than that, he steals at a 80% rate. Certainly there are better players, but name one who can play as many positions as well defensively? That’s the value of Tyler Wade on the bench. Again, who plays shortstop today if Torres pulls his hamstring again?

He does play all the positions and we need that now. Is there anyone better ready in the system that can take his role and can play all the positions he can play? I don't think so. I don't expect him to ever even be average with the bat though.

Are they done with expanded September rosters this year ? Or is that back ? Roster size will be expanded to 28 in September with no limit on number of pitchers:

Rogers is good. I was hoping he'd stay on the IL.

No one is making that contention. The point was that Voit coming back will negatively affect the versatility on the bench. Wade has played all three outfield positions this season, as well as third, shortstop, and second base, and he is the emergency catcher and a pinch runner who can steal a base and can score from second on a single about as well as anyone. Again, not many baseball players can fill all those roles off the bench. That has value.

Are they done with expanded September rosters this year ? Or is that back ? If I remember correctly - and I could be wrong - I believe that was one of the costs of expanding the roster to 26. There won’t be an unlimited bench in September. I think it might be 29 man roster. But, don’t quote me.
