We need to coax El Duque out of retirement... Might be your best idea ever, Russell. Where have you been hiding this side of yourself? … I think we could expand on this thought, although I would suggest we limit the signings to players that are still living…

Every time I see Mike Harkey I harken (Harkey, harken… clever huh?) back to seeing him pitch and never getting an idea that he was big enough to climb buildings and rip trains from their tracks, but day-am! He’s a big dude these days. Tall and wide. I think I saw two Japanese reporters following him and reporting on his every movement…

Speaking of the Cubs -- I watched a little of their game with the White Sox this afternoon. I love weekday games from Wrigley. Anyway, Kyle Hendricks was pitching for the Cubs. I knew he'd had a decent career, but in looking up his stats I was amazed at how he stacks up with some seriously outstanding pitchers. His career ERA+ of 130 is the same as HOFers Carl Hubbell and Hal Newhouser. One behind HOF immortals Sandy Koufax and Dizzy Dean. One ahead of future HOFers Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole. But he's 31 years old and only has 82 victories. Never had a losing season. He'll be lucky to get to 150.

Good job by Peralta and Ridings continues his dominance.

Good job by Peralta and Ridings continues his dominance. Threw the kid right into the fire, bringing him in with two runners on base.

That Cubs lineup today was really decimated.
