I have heretical views. I think stealing bases, hit and runs and the like matter to.  A throw back to a different era of baseball Every board has to have some one who departs from the norm or it is boring. I think ba and team speed are a better way to win than home runs. Well in baseball terms sure How many today think batting average and team speed are critical not OBP and home runs Everything is important in balance. Too much of any one style of play will dispose of balance. Mix those guys up in the lineup. Make sure they can all field well. Make sure most of them run better than average. Have good throwing arms all over the field. And pitch. Pitch well… |

Batting average isn't as important as it used to be Batting average has become underrated but not to the extreme that Russ thinks it is. It is a simple question. Would Stanton, Voit, and Sanchez have been on this team if batting average or team speed mattered. |

On the bright side I think Boston is who we are competing for for the last play off spot and they lost. How are Oakland and Tampa as good as they are spending what they do. We might study their model.  |
