Pathetic, DJ, Pathetic! What happened to ya? A. He was way over his head last season B. He was way over his head in 2019, too C. This is a bit under his real skill level D. He may still have an injured tricep E. It’s all predictable. Age. F. He may still rebound to a .300 hitter next year G. He may not. H. As usual, we had to pay too much for too long And that takes us back to doe, doe, doe, doe Doe, a deer, a female deer…

The Blue Jays have made up 7 games in the standings on the Yankees in the last 10 games. Thats insane. Sounds like Yankees/Red Sox last month.

You can observe a lot just by watching. One of the most common mistakes baseball fans make is that we “project”. Baseball is seldom played on a steady course. There are slumps and hot streaks. If you truly study the game you find only a few teams that are good or bad the entire season. When they are, that’s the rarity. It’s one of the things that retains our interest. I can’t explain why that is, but I’ve seen it in season after season. Quick swings in the standings. Joey Gallo was hitting .238 on the morning of July 18. He’s hit .119 since. He could hit .300 over the next twenty games or so…or carry us in the playoffs…

Take the Yankees/Rays for example both teams happened to be playing well at the same time when the Yankees went 35-11 the Rays went something like 34-12 or whatever it was basically no difference and thats a 50 game or so span and not 10.

Well Rizzo is hitting .341 in his last 12 games so his COVID slump is over.

While it IS unusual, it does happen. When it happens somewhere near the bottom or middle of the standings we seldom notice it. When it happens to other teams we seldom notice unless it’s near the top of the standings. Look up the great pennant race collapses… some interesting fodder there…

I think this is an average team that had one hot streak. Or rather its half a team. Our offense is a joke by elite standards. Management simply does not get it matters. Or maybe they can't figure out how to make it better.

This is something else:
When the Yankees traded four prospects to Texas for Gallo on July 29, they were five games over .500 and 8 1/2 games behind first place.
They are now 19 games over .500, and 8 1/2 games behind first place.
Gained 14 games on their record and no distance on the Rays.
Playoff implications:
Toronto won 5-1 Seattle lost 5-4 A's lost 6-3 Rays won 12-7 Red sox lost 12-7
So that puts it at:
Rays 51 losses (7-9 Season series, 3 left) Astros 57 losses * White Sox 58 losses * Yankees 60 losses Red Sox 62 losses + Toronto 62 losses (6-8 season series, 5 left) Seattle 64 losses * A's 64 losses *
*= Yankees have clinched season series vs these teams + = Yankees cannot win season series vs these teams

Or maybe they can't figure out how to make it better. 35-11 is one long hot streak. These other teams other than the Rays are streaky as hell also.

Our offense is a joke. Tampa went on a ten game losing streak, which is amazing.....
How do they spend a tiny fraction of what we do and be a better team? We should hire their GM.
