Our offense is a joke. Tampa went on a ten game losing streak, which is amazing..... How do they spend a tiny fraction of what we do and be a better team? We should hire their GM. As good as they are the Rays usually falter in the playoffs because of the same reasons. They were fortunate last year with the 60 game season, but usually they don't advance very far in the playoffs because of the lack of talent. The bigger better stars usaully are going to win out in a playoff series.

Your problem is perspective. Strat-O-Matic costs the same every year (not considering inflationary raises). Each card costs the same amount, and is made of the same kind of cardboard stock. When the season starts, you know what the stats are going to be. You can plug in small sample players into big situations. This is real life, a life where the .364-hitting 2B of last year can struggle to hold up a .270 average this year. A life where the All-Star closer can suddenly get the yips at the worst time possible. You have an expectation that does not allow for underperformance, nor for the growth of opposing teams or players. It’s a baseball Candyland in your mind…

I have an expectation that goes back many years. We don't get what we pay for. And we ignore offense almost always. Which is why we have about 4 players batting over .250.
I would take the Tampa GM over cashman any day. Even I knew it was stupid to hire Chapman for 15 million and Stanton was not worth 25 million...
