STUPID--STUPID--STUPID; so damn STUPID!!!
I finally understand the way the Yankees Mgt. thinks while wearing their Tin-Foil Hats:
If a Prospect starts hitting & playing well = Send Back To Minors (see articles below).
AND then at Season's End put THEM on Waivers...
KEEP IN MIND: They were YOUNG--High Energy--Fast--Switch Hitters--CHEAP...But apparently the YANKS likes FAS that are COSTLY that they can sign to 5-year Plus Contracts.
ONCE AGAIN = Why the Yankees will not be going to the WS anytime soon. WHY??? IT IS THEIR MENTALITY
Pirates Claim Greg Allen Off Waivers From Yankees
The Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed outfielder Greg Allen off waivers from the New York Yankees reports Fansided’s Robert Murray.
The 28-year-old Allen saw only 15 games of action in pinstripes last season but made the most of his time, putting up an admirable .270/.417/.432 slash line and going a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts.
Angels Claim Andrew Velzaquez From Yankees
The Angels have claimed infielder Andrew Velazquez off waivers from the Yankees, per announcements from both teams.
Greg Allen certainly did not deserve to be sent to the minors, and if you were around at that time, you would have read my more or less daily castigation of Boone and Cashman for that very reason. Inserting Jonathan Davis into a lineup that needed offensive was mind-boggling. The problem is the Yankees cannot protect everyone or put them on the 40-man roster, but I am curious as to whom they protected instead. Like last season, losing Garrett Whitlock to the Red Sox and keeping Brooks Kriske.

Velazquez isn't really a prospect, he's a 27 year old with a MLB career slash line of .184/.249/.276. The Yankees have too many younger and more talented kids in the system that will need to be put on the 40 man roster this winter or we'll see Garrett Whitlock Part II.

“Catcher Rob Brantly was also outrighted off the major league roster and elected free agency instead of accepting an assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.”

Jeff Weaver was fool’s gold for me as well. It should have been a good pickup. I shared an apartment with a Cincinnati Reds fanatic, who loved Paul O’Neill, so I was less dubious about the trade than I might have been. We used to argue about who was the best player in baseball: Don Mattingly or Eric Davis. I watched Weaver pitch for Detroit against the Yankees at the Stadium. I had a good enough seat and was paying enough attention to see the incredible movement he had on his pitches. I wasn't aware of what a headcase he was, although he looked like such a stoner I should have guessed. And the correct answer of course was Mattingly. Nobody ever said "Eric Baseball." But he had amazing talent, no question. Well to be fair no one ever referred to Mattingly as “D” either. For one season… maybe two, Davis was the king with his 5-tool package. Mattingly had a short window, but it was still longer than that of Davis…

We haven’t exactly lost any lynch-pin players. Some likable players, yes. Not one will be missed in 2022. We must clear the way for viable stars.
A word about Greg Allen. He has a lot of potential that he has never put together. Cleveland saw him as the next Kenny Lofton, but when given opportunity he simply didn’t measure up. He would have filled a role in 2021 if he could have continued to play over his head, or if he had “found himself”, which he very well will do. I expect the Yankees will make moves that will render his departure, as well as the departure of Locastro moot.
Velasquez was fun while he lasted. Anyone that believes he should stay and be the SS in 2022 needs to change the genus of peyote he’s smoking. And I like the kid… a secondary “Toe” in Yankee lore forever.
Rob Brantly is a journeyman catcher who will continue his journey. He’ll be easy to replace…

The Yankees needed Greg Allen at the time he was with the team, but he was kicked to the curb to make room for Jonathan Davis, a move that was never explained or will never make any sense.

Exactly right. Allen was hitting, stealing bases, playing requisite defense, and brought a spark to the Yankees that was helping them win games. Play out that string as long as it lasts. Why bring in Davis hoping he might produce at the level Allen was performing? It will never make sense.

Just one of the reasons that I've lost faith in the Yankee front office, making moves like this that don't make sense. If Cashman can't get rid of the terrible Hicks contract and they're stuck with him, I hope they at least let Florial have an honest shot at the CF job or at least a spot on the MLB roster.

Florial has more upside than Hicks and is already better defensively with a stronger arm, which once was Hicks’ main weapon. Florial also hits left handed, which brings more balance in Yankee Stadium and the lineup. Hicks is a switch-hitter who cannot hit his weight from the left side. Both are prone to striking out, but we’ve known several years of opportunities for Hicks. Time to see what Florial can do over a full season. He cannot be any worse overall than LeMaire, Davis, Andujar, Tauchman, Locastro, Frazier, Ford, Bruce, Odor, etc. Give him 40 games in centerfield and he’ll at least be a solid defender batting ninth.

I never wanted to say this because I liked Marcus Thames, but I think he had the wrong mentality to best serve a young man like Florial. Thames carried his personal habits to his coaching job, basically swing hard in case you hit the ball. I hope the news coaching philosophy will emphasize more contact and tame Florial down so he can be more consistent. Guys that hit .210 in the minors make me nervous. I’d like see him hit with some consistency in AAA before we test him further in MLB.

I knew what Davis was and the reasoning for giving him a try. Completely expendable if we needed to release him due to options, etc. By the way… have we dumped his sorry ass yet? Because I won’t be okay with him in 2022…

To further expound, a player like Florial I’m concerned about his long term development… Davis was pure filler…
