Okay, it did not mean a big trade coming - just a roster dump for the Rule V draft. I still don't see Volpe? Does he not need protection? Andujar must still have trade value for the Yankees over Frazier. Does anyone pick up Wade, and are the Yankees betting they can get him back if he doesn't make a major league roster? Volpe doesn't need protection yet. Okay, my heart rate just relaxed. Thanks, Kay! Let's go get a bowl of French Onion Soup and then a couple of slices!

At least we won't have to watch Odor's awful AB's next season. Getting DFA'd is good news for Wade since he can hook on with another team that will use him. Who knows if Frazier will ever play again? Frazier and Torres were two of our shiniest new toys not that long ago.

Looks like, contrary to what I assumed, they will make no major efforts to improve the offense this year. Which will mean it will be painful to watch again. I don't know why would come to this conclusion? I think they'll add one of the big SS's and probably a first baseman too.

They exchanged Donny Sands and Nick Nelson on the 40 man roster for Oswaldo Cabrera and Everson Pereira. Peraza is already there, but not Volpe. We might be seeing a big trade coming soon to clear space for Volpe by exiting someone like Frazier, Andujar, Torres, or hopefully Voit, which could mean a trade with Oakland for instance. No team knows the Yankees triple A players better than the Phillies since these two organization's AAA teams played and scrimmaged each other a lot. Nelson is worth taking a chance on since he does have a good arm, some coach just needs to fix him command and confidence issues.

So, with no delving into the stable of free agents or major league trades and the DFA of Tyler Wade, the only shortstop on the Yankees' roster is either a third baseman (Gio Urshela) or three true second basemen (Gleyber Torres, DJ LeMahieu, and Oswaldo Cabrera). Suddenly, I am feeling Noetsi-like symptoms.

The weeds are being cut out and the soil turned for whatever they plan on planting. Is that Correa or Seager? I think that’s where they’re aiming…

From Pinstriped Alley:
"In exchange, the Yankees received 21-year-old first baseman T.J. Rumfield. Selected in the 12th round of last year’s draft, the Rumfield made his single-A debut this year, where he slashed .250/.426/.263 in very limited action. In addition to Rumfield, the Yankees also added left-handed pitcher Joel Valdez. Valdez, also 21, made his debut in the Phillies’ system in 2019. In 75.2 innings pitched across two seasons in the minors, Valdez has pitched to a 2.62 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 70 strikeouts, 32 walks. Perhaps surprisingly, Valdez has not given up a home run in his professional career thus far."

The lowest down the short stop tree I would go for a stopgap would be Freddie Galvis. At least he has a bit of pop once in a while. The Phillies seemed to prefer Didi and Toe at SS last season for some reason, but he’s always looked pretty slick when ever I’ve watched him in the field. Don’t want Andrelton, don’t want Elvis (and bit concerned he may be pushed on us if we make a trade with the A’s). There are three categories of SS available right now. Superstars, young kids, worn out nags… just finding a decent one is a challenge…

It just doesn't give us anything at shortstop, unless we must eat Elvis Andrus' 13 million dollar final season. That might be the stopgap and a necessity in order not to lose another valuable prospect to Billy Beane, which he shall probably take more than one. If the Yankees were able to bring up someone like Andrew Velasquez to play meaningful innings last October, then Oswald Peraza could get some innings in the second half of next year if he hits decently at AAA, which could also prevent the Yankees from having to take on the vesting option on Andrus in 2023.

So, you see it too? Dang, he’s really worn out for 32 years of age. His fielding pct. is still about league average. His range factor has shriveled to below league average. His last two seasons cumulative slash in 175 games is 235./.287/.322/ .608, an OPS + of 71. He’s about as Andrelton Simmons as Andrelton Simmons is. But he could indeed be force fed on us… I would vomit…

And, below league average in range was where we were with Gregorius at the end of his Yankee tenure, yet still an upgrade over Torres, who would probably be a key piece going to Oakland, as they had 37 year old Jed Lowrie and 33 year old Josh Harrison at second base last season. That would give us an infield of Gio Urshela, Elvis Andrus, DJ LeMahieu, and Matt Olsen, which is far superior all around to what we ended with last season with Rougned Odor, Gio Urshela, Gleyber Torres, and Anthony Rizzo.
