So, you see it too? Dang, he’s really worn out for 32 years of age. His fielding pct. is still about league average. His range factor has shriveled to below league average. His last two seasons cumulative slash in 175 games is 235./.287/.322/ .608, an OPS + of 71. He’s about as Andrelton Simmons as Andrelton Simmons is. But he could indeed be force fed on us… I would vomit… He's a worn out 33 years of age, but he would have led the Yankees in stolen bases last season with 12. And, below league average in range was where we were with Gregorius at the end of his Yankee tenure, yet still an upgrade over Torres, who would probably be a key piece going to Oakland, as they had 37 year old Jed Lowrie and 33 year old Josh Harrison at second base last season. That would give us an infield of Gio Urshela, Elvis Andrus, DJ LeMahieu, and Matt Olsen, which is far superior all around to what we ended with last season with Rougned Odor, Gio Urshela, Gleyber Torres, and Anthony Rizzo. At least Didi had some pop in his bat. It’s hard to believe Andrus rocked a .297 average and 20 HR as recently as 2017… (His only double figure HR season)… I guess we shall see. Rumors abounded about Simmons last year. I have to agree that at SS the glove is king… I’ve always said so. Now I have to back what I said, if it comes to that… Maybe we can get another back up type SS, like Galvis and let them fight it out…

Unfortunately, it's the nature of the stopgap. You just have to hope one of Volpe or Peraza has the talent and the mental toughness to make it in the show. And, it's the cost of getting another bonafide starting pitcher and an all-star first baseman, which allows Urshela and LeMahieu to play their best and natural positions.

Just looking at the Fielding Bible Statistics for Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) and Elvis Andrus, Didi Gregorius, and Gleyber Torres all had -10 (minus 10) runs saved last season. Not good. Andrelton Simmons was second at +15 runs saved to Carlos Correa at +20. Gregorius is also a free agent and could be a stopgap and is lefty? Man, I just do not like Simmons, but defensively, he may be the best available. It feels like dumpster diving again.

In 2020, .827 OPS.

All the range left of that little hobbit Dempsey Statue in San Luis… 20-25 with a .190 BA. That’s Roogie numbers… Why exaggerate? Gregorius has never batted .190 even once in his career. His lowest was last season at .209, and he has never been a strikeout machine like Odor, who had 100 strikeouts in only 361 plate appearances last season. Gregorius has never struck out more than 87 times in a season. Didi's projections for 2022 are .233 .290 .407 .697, which would improve with half his games at Yankee Stadium. We're talking about a one- or two-year stopgap batting ninth. Paired with Andrelton Simmons, that could be a pretty good combination of either late inning defense or left-handed power off the bench, depending upon who starts. A platoon would definitely help Gregorius, as he was ugly against lefties last season. I just have a feeling the Yankees are not going much more than the fourth best offer to any of the shortstops that could make a difference, i.e., Correa, Seager, and Story.

With the state of pitching today and the need to have at least 13 pitchers on the MLB roster at all times, can you really afford to use two roster spots on players that only play SS? It might be tough. I like DiDi but the defense is just too bad for me, we put up with enough of that with Torres. The Yankees have to go hard for Correa, Seager or even Javy Baez. If they don't, I'm going to really question what's going on with the organization. They're the Yankees for crying out loud, time to act like it.

There’re supposed to be the Yankees, but recent indications have me skeptical. Other than Cole, this management team seems very enamored with odd moves from the reduced for quick sale section and making fourth place offers to available talent. The Yankees just fielded an infield with a second baseman at third and a hobbled third baseman at shortstop in a one-game playoff. And, they DFA’d left handed hittingTyler Wade who can play every infield and outfield position except catcher, while protecting a 26 year old reliever from the Rule V draft. I have zero idea what they’ll do, except embrace their self-imposed algorithms of rest and restraint. Little makes sense to me anymore. Therefore, the Yankees desperately need a shortstop, so they’ll trade for a first baseman and starter, DFA their most versatile player and cobble together two stopgap chances from the bargain bin. It’s the Jonathan Davis philosophy for filling a need. Maybe I’ll just buy a handgun...

Stupid be Stupid--Ding Bat Crazy--At a lost for Words. Tequila is really upset...I have never seen her so upset.
WHY THEY RELEASED WADE:
--Too cheap (only $700K) --Could play every IF position --Could play all OF positions --Very Versatile
--Has Speed --Under 30-Years Old
INSTEAD, THE YANKEES WANT: --Swing Away Players --Long--Term Contracts --Capable of only playing one or two positions --Older --Huge $$$ Contracts --No Speed
If they had followed parts of my Six-Year Plan (Part Three) they could have easily kept Wade and still protected MORE PROSPECTS under Rule 5 Plan (posted previously):
...Here are our FA’s that I would not re-sign
--Kubler $11 M (I like him but he will probably cost too much) --Rizzo $16.5 M --Britton $13 M --Gardner $1.8 M (Thanks for the Memories—maybe a Front Office OR Coaches Job???). --Day $2.45 M
The Plan calls for us to trade/cut the following Players (Trade them mostly for Prospects with a few exceptions):
--Sanchez $6.5 M --Torres $4.5 M --Gallo $6.2 M --Ordor $1.5 M (I think the Rangers paid $10.5 M of $12 M his salary?) --Hicks $10.5 M --Warren $500 K --Frazier $2.1 M --Romano $570 K --Davis ($ = ???) --Kricke ($ =???) --Chapman $16 M
--Nelson
They also should have kept Sands (C).
I agree with the rest of their cuts; BUT what About Volpe ???
Who wants to BET THAT THEY RESIGN Gardner = Because he is more Versatile than Wade???!!!
I worry that Tequila might to something drastic...

Volpe is safe, Dome. He could be traded if we found a deal where it makes sense, but he can’t be claimed under rule 5 (rule v)… Odor has been designated for assignment. In other words, he’ll probably be released. You can’t get anything for nothing, and nothing is his value at this point…

Offered Verlander $25m BUT couldn't keep Wade at $700k (a Player capable of playing SEVEN positions and a Base Stealer)
I worry that she could be defecting to either TB or Blue Jays = CANNOT BLAME HER.

Letting Wade go was all about opening up 40 man roster spots and not money. True enough, it just seems contrary to the stated mission of becoming more athletic and a adding speed and versatility to the roster. Plus, he was our only real shortstop remaining. I’m going to miss watching that guy score from second on a single and beating the throw by four feet.
