Letting Wade go was all about opening up 40 man roster spots and not money. True enough, it just seems contrary to the stated mission of becoming more athletic and a adding speed and versatility to the roster. Plus, he was our only real shortstop remaining. I’m going to miss watching that guy score from second on a single and beating the throw by four feet. Guys with tremendous speed and can play 6 different positions have value. The move doesn't make a lot of sense, especially with Boone's fondness for resting players.

Billy Beane certainly is not going to assist the Yankees without them feeling some pain, and I can see Oakland asking for a combination like Volpe, Gil, Loaisiga, and Torres, while asking the Yankees to take on Elvis Andrus and his salary. The Yankees will probably want to try to rid themselves of Voit and Andujar. Beane will likely rule out Andujar in principle, as he is not the OBP type of hitter the A's covet.

Elvis could maybe turn the team around. He did it in his movie “Roustabout”. Jumped up on a table and started singing and saved the circus. In fact I think all of Elvis’ movies had a similar scene. He saved farms, hotels, chicken houses, houses of ill repute. All by jumping up on a table and singing. If we’d have had him last year we could’ve probably caught Tampa… Maybe we could get the 60’s version of Ursela Andress in stead. She could play third…

Offered Verlander $25m BUT couldn't keep Wade at $700k (a Player capable of playing SEVEN positions and a Base Stealer)
I worry that she could be defecting to either TB or Blue Jays = CANNOT BLAME HER.
Letting Wade go was all about opening up 40 man roster spots and not money. Wade has value, but will he be a decent enough fit for any other team to select him? It’s possible that no one will claim him and that we can re-sign him…

I'm not suggesting he's anywhere close to being THAT valuable, but his OBP and even his modest OPS+ of 90 were pretty much the same as DJLM's. Given all of his other obvious abilities on the bases and in the field, it is a bit surprising that the Yankees just DFA'd him. All those years I wondered how the Yanks ever thought he could contribute enough with the bat to keep bringing him up to the majors. Then when he finally showed it, they let him go. I guess they're thinking last season was a fluke (his career OBP is .298, OPS+ a lame 66) rather than a harbinger of future production. We'll find out soon enough.

Maybe the Yanks think Oswaldo Cabrera can replace him? Or, no one picks up Wade and they resign him to a minor league contract?

It still strikes me that Wade suddenly became a non-entity during the hottest and most productive stretch of his career. Is it possible that he said or did something that pissed Boone off?
It sort of went from me wondering “What will Wade in today’s game?” To when will Wade ever play again. Not much escapes the eyes and ears of the press, so that would be weird…

A signing, even if it has nothing to do with the Yankees.

A signing, even if it has nothing to do with the Yankees. Is this the coldest of Hot Stove seasons? So far, the Yankees have resigned a reliever, lost their fastest most versatile defender in Wade, jettisoned switch-hitting and base-stealing Greg Allen, arguably the most exciting call-up last season, and cut bait with Frazier, Odor, and Jonathan Davis.
