He was just so-so for Boston last year, but it’s another serviceable arm for the Mets. They haven't fallen asleep like some New York teams have. I saw a quote from Jeff Cohen this morning; he was asked if he thought he could stay under the super luxury tax that kicks in at $290 million, and he responded "probably not." I hope Hal is watching. Steve Cohen may be an insider trading douche but at least he spends money on the team which is more I can say for Hal. Thanks for correcting me on the first name. I know a guy named Jeff Cohen who is as far from Insider trading as you could get. But yeah, however Steve Cohen made his money, better that he spends his ill-gotten gains on his team.

Mets certainly bolstered their rotation behind Degrom. Tip of the cap to the new Yankees: Ladies and gentlemen, this is not your father’s New York Mets. Does Hal even care? Has he raised prices on concessions again?

Has he raised prices on concessions again? The Dodgers and Mets are everything the Yankees should be. yanksgoyard.com/2022/03/13/aaron-boones-press-debut-spring-training-triggering-yankees-fans/Some presser from our mighty leader Aaron Ba-Boone yesterday! Essentially, this is nearly EXACTLY the same team as last season, minus Tyler Wade, Andrew Velazquez, Clint Frazier, Greg Allen, and Andrew Heaney. So much for youth, speed, and athleticism. Other than familiar faces gone, the only additions are also quite recognizable. Before the work stoppage, the Yankees signed Joely Rodriguez to bolster the bullpen, when it had lost bullpen depth through the expiring contract of one Joely Rodriguez. Yesterday, Ba-Boone announce that the 2022 New York Yankees' shortstop is Giovanni Urshela. If one has not slipped into early dementia, we should recall that Gio Urshela is a true third baseman, who started 24 games at shortstop last season, finishing only 13 games at the position. BaBoone also stated that The Church of Gardnerism remains extant, and the Yankees have not ruled out signing Brett "The Jet" Gardner for another season or two. Meanwhile, in the Bat Cave, the evil gnome Brian "Sleeps on Sidewalks" Cashman signed the otherworldly Tim Locastro, whom you may recollect was - for a few minutes - healthy enough wear Pinstripes at the same Bat-time and the same Bat-channel last season. So, let's inventory the tsunami-like holes needed addressing after the close of last season's one-and-done playoffs and the off-season's talent-rich free agency pool: 1. Shortstop - Gio Urshela (Third Baseman) - no change, except late inning defensive replacements Velazquez and Wade are gone. Urshela was hurt for much of last season. 2. First Base - Luke Voit (No change, except there is no Jay Bruce, Chris Gittens, Mike Ford, or Anthony Rizzo to provide late-inning defense or pinch hit from the port side). Voit has been our most frequent (in separate stints) flyer on the IL since the trade with the Cardinals, and that includes Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. 3. Catcher - Sandwich et al (No change) 4. Centerfield - The Yankees signed Ender Inciarte to a minor league contract, except there is no Mike Tauchman, Greg Allen, or Brett Gardner (yet) waiting in the wings for the inevitable injury to Aaron Hicks, who can no longer field or throw with his former athleticism and still cannot hit from the left side of the plate - the majority of his at-bats. 5. Starting Rotation - Yankees re-sign Joely Rodriguez to the bullpen, while allowing Corey Kluber to sign a contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, who have Kluber under contract for less than he rehabbed for with the Yankees. Did I mention that James Taillon and Luis Severino were on the injured list last season for injuries other than their Tommy John surgeries? And, Gerrit Cole missed starts and pitched on a gimpy hamstring down the stretch and in the playoffs?

I think he’d gladly welcome roster upgrades, but if they’re going to come, what else can he do but continue to use the players he has?…
