I wouldn't call them cheapskates. More like half assing their financial advantage and bad money management.

I wouldn't call them cheapskates. More like half assing their financial advantage and bad money management. Hence, Half-Ass Hal! Opening Day Positions: Last season/This season
C: Gary Sanchez
1B: Jay Bruce
2B: DJ LeMahieu
SS: Gleyber Torres
3B: Gio Urshela
vs.
C: Kyle Higashioka
1B: Anthony Rizzo
2B: DJ LeMahieu/Gleyber Torres
SS: Isiah Kiner-Falefa
3B: Josh Donaldson
Well, what does everyone think? Granted, we were originally thinking this:
C: Jacob Stallings
1B: Matt Olson/Freddy Freeman
2B: DJ LeMahieu/Gleyber Torres
SS: Corey Seager
3B: Gio Urshela

For me, its a big meh. We definitely have the talent to make the playoffs. If we get some better health our offense should be much improved. Hopefully we can get Manaea or Montas still from the A's. I wish we had really gone for one of the star free agents or trade targets though. Half ass "I answer to banks and bondholders" Hal is gonna half ass. What are you gonna do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The first would have required us to trade elite talent which Cashman will not. He tries to things cheaply The second would require a major investment which was never going to happen.

I wouldn't call them cheapskates. More like half assing their financial advantage and bad money management. Exactly. A payroll of $255 million and possibly counting is not parsimonious. Just poorly administered. It seems like for that kind of money they should have Dodger-level talent, but they don't. That's what makes it so frustrating. There is no way in the good old days with a free agent pool that had the likes of Freeman, Correa, Kershaw, Seager, Scherzer, Semien etc. all out there that George wouldn't have nabbed at least one or two of them. No possible way.

While Hal is responsible to board members and stockholders and banks, George was "The Boss" and wanted to give fans and board members and stockholders and banks a perennial winner. Different personality, different priorities, different upbringing, different heart and will.

Just occurred to me that Colorado still has a MLB team. Not bad for a guy who could play any and all three outfield positions, third base, and first base regularly. He was really hot and cold as a Cub, though.
