I never believed the yankees were pursuing any of the elite players they were supposedly interested in. It is not how the current ownership does things.

This is the owner trying to save face, after Jeter left because of backtracking on a promise to improve the team.

I know how Coors-heavy his splits have been, but Fenway isn't exactly Death Valley for hitters either. Still very good defensively -- although he's only ever played SS, and Bogaerts has been quoted as saying he had no plans to move -- and the power is there. First serious noise Boston has made this off-season unless you count the one-year deals with Paxton and Wacha. It makes them a better team.

Toe will somehow wind up on the 26-man roster during the season. Hard not to root for him.

First serious noise Boston has made this off-season unless you count the one-year deals with Paxton and Wacha. It makes them a better team. The dynamics of the Bogaerts-Story infield should be interesting. Bogaerts certainly felt slighted by the supposedly foregone conclusion that he would move to second, saying "It's like I didn't even exist." Bogaerts and Devers led the Red Sox to the playoffs last season, and Devers isn't exactly known for his defense. Story is not the defender he was a couple years ago, especially with his shoulder problem and erratic throwing arm. Still, he seemed to bristle about the prospect of moving positions, too. Boston's pitching staff is a mess in my opinion. Eduardo Rodriguez is in Motown, and he has been the lynchpin on that staff, having some pretty big games against the Yankees. With Sale out with a stress fracture (How do you get a stress fracture in your ribs?), counting on Wacha and Paxton is a wild bet in my estimation. I am happy Boston did not sign Suzuki from Japan, who I suspect will be a fundamentally solid outfielder, baserunner, and hitter.

Amusing that the Yankees were associated with lots of big names supposedly, and signed none. Personally I think that is the plan going forward, not to sign big name stars. Whether to save money or because they don't think free agency works.
Hopefully the minor leagues will produce decent players.
