Baseball 2021 is over for me. I’m unlikely to waste another minute watching a ball game in autumn weather. Unless it’s the only thing on the tube and it’s after dark. Sadly, after dark is going to come very early very soon. I’ll still be around here as always, because this forum is about more than today’s game (which is part of why I’ve still never started a game thread). I love that ignominy… I’m strictly a reliever… 🤓 I'll still keep up with the post-season, although with greatly reduced intensity. Since I've thrown in the towel on NFL, NBA and NHL, some half-hearted viewing won't cut into my days much. But like you, I take pleasure from the off-season threads here. Probably as much as the in-season, because the game lends itself to endless discussion. It’s nice to talk about baseball without baseball getting in the way. I was building a train set with my son one day when he observed “Dad, it would be nice if we could do this and not have to worry about the train*”. Baseball can be somewhat the same as that during the off season. I’d a trade needs to be made or a free agent signed, there is little urgency. There is no game tomorrow. The winter meetings can come and go, yet there is still time. * I have a tendency to be intricate with scenery and like to include houses, animals and trees, and hills, cliffs. None of that flat plywood board painted green with perfectly straight roads stuff for me. Another hobby thrust into boxes now for several years…

As soon as the World Series was over, he would gleefully announce, “It’s Hot Stove time!” This forum has become our own baseball version of “Cheers.” Always nice to drop in, hang up your coat, and check in with everyone. I just realized we have no female contributors here. Then again, there weren’t any at Pinstripes Plus, but there were a couple at the site prior to that if I recall?

Inger in the blue and white striped train engineer cap with his train set and whistle! Denny Neagle by your side!

I remember a nice and knowledgeable woman named Barb. She was from the South Shore area of Boston. This would have been around 2005. I remember her because I was living in Boston at the time and we used to commiserate about being Yankee fans in Boston. Don't recall her nom de plume.

To me baseball is the yankees. When their season is over my interest in it fades.

To me baseball is the yankees. When their season is over my interest in it fades. That’s the exact opposite of me. While the Yankees are by a long shot what I care about most, I just love the game of baseball. The history, the intricate methods of measuring performance, discussing it, playing it, watching it, debating it. Other than some travel sites like TripAdvisor, this is the only place I ever post anymore. An island of fun in a social media cesspool.

HO scale? G? O? S? I forget all of them. They can consume a life. Keep guessing, Pipps. After working with HO a couple of times, I discovered N scale, and there was no returning. In fact, I’m tempted to go Z scale, but it’s so difficult to find accessories. I’ve seen photos of Z scale built into coffee tables that were really nice, and it’s not hidden away in rec room or basement…

Very elaborate. Did you ever see it?

Here's a clip from the playoffs, albeit 58 years ago.

Very elaborate. Did you ever see it? I never saw that one. I used to go to a place south of Lancaster that had since closed after being burned down in a fire. Frey’s Evergreen Farm I believe was the name of it. They did a nice train display until the fire maybe twenty years ago. I also bought all of the shrubbery that was in front of my house from them. Then, I also discovered a relatively elaborate set up in Strasburg (no surprise there). I had some “events” built into it, such as a house that would catch fire, with steel wool smoke billowing up and a fire truck bursting from the fire station to go to the rescue. The steel wool would recede back into the house and the truck would return to the station…
