Given the Dee Gordon deal, it would appear that any team could sign a deal with any player by calling it a mi or league transaction… Only I guess they’d be bound to pay the player if the stoppage continued and he honored the deal by playing in AAA for the season…

Evan Drellich of The Athletic reports that MLB and MLB Players Association representatives are unlikely to discuss core economic issues at the epicenter of reaching a new Collective Bargaining Agreement until January.
Drellich adds that the two sides have had some communication since owners imposed a lockout earlier this month and are scheduled to hold a small in-person meeting Thursday to discuss ancillary issues. It remains unclear which side will wind up submitting proposals once negotiations on core economic issues resumes next month. At this point, the gap between the two sides appears wider than the Mariana Trench, which is problematic since there likely needs to be a resolution in early February to avoid the lockout extending into spring training. Whenever a baseball player agrees to a contract, the financials of the deal are quickly reported by various media outlets, including here at MLBTR.
What gets discussed much less often, however, are the financial details of the people paying those paychecks. Here is each team’s primary owner, along with their net worth, with source links provided. (Quick caveat that financial numbers of this nature are fluid and subject to change.)

Sport Teams including MLB Teams building new Stadiums -- Just wish they would also build Green Affordable Housing instead of Stadiums...
...In 2016, the Brookings Institute published a paper against using public dollars to fund stadiums. The report estimated from 2000 to 2014, more than $3 billion in tax revenue was lost on tax-exempt municipal bonds used to finance pro sports venues.
Leiweke, who aligned the Islanders with private money to build UBS Arena, agrees that it’s best to avoid public funds.
“Municipalities and states need to be spending their money on schools, education, transportation, and life safety,” said Leiweke. “Now there is an ever-evolving thinking going on about how we [privately] finance these buildings and operate these teams to find new revenue streams going forward,” he added.
In most circumstances, teams have leverage when soliciting public dollars, and sometimes threaten to relocate if they don’t get the money. That can hurt local economies. But after St. Louis sued the Rams for departing in 2016 – receiving a $790 million settlement – teams will probably think twice before relocating. READ MORE...

A VERY GOOD READ.
20 things we'd like to see when the MLB lockout ends.
...The Yankees finally land a shortstop
Sticking in New York, let's check in on the Yankees who have to be frustrated with their crosstown rivals pushing them off of the back pages all winter. The Bombers headed into the offseason in desperate need of an offensive upgrade at position number six on your scorecard, and while their fans are frustrated they didn't address it already, all hope is not lost. Carlos Correa--although that would be quite the story dating back to their rivalry with Houston--and Trevor Story are both free agents still. The Yankees simply need to get one of them into pinstripes.
...The Yankees re-sign Anthony Rizzo
The Bombers deadline trade to acquire first baseman Anthony Rizzo from the Cubs was surprising at the time, but it was a fit that worked well for both sides. His left-handed power played well with the short right-field porch at Yankee Stadium, and Rizzo has always been a strong clubhouse influence. New York could certainly use him in 2022 and beyond, and Rizzo himself has made it clear that his preference is to return to the Bronx.
